What Ice Spice wants, Ice Spice gets. As reported by Variety on April 10, 2024, the breakout rapper is set to make her acting debut in Spike Lee‘s upcoming crime thriller High and Low opposite Denzel Washington.
High and Low, which marks the fifth time Washington and Lee have worked together, is an English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosaw’s 1963 film noir of the same name. The project features a script written by Lee himself alongside Alan Fox.
High and Low, originally loosely based on Ed McBain’s novel King’s Ransom, tells the story of a rich businessman who gets extorted after his child gets kidnapped and falls into debt after paying the ransom. Spike Lee's take on the story is being produced by Apple Original Films and A24, and it’s expected to be released theatrically before premiering globally on AppleTV+

Production for High and Low is already underway, and Ice Spice has reportedly begun shooting her scenes. While details about her characters are being kept under wraps for now, we can tell the project is a dream come true for the Bronx native.
In her June 2023 cover interview with Teen Vogue, Ice Spice opened up about her desire to attend film school before she decided to pursue a career in music. “I love movies,” she confessed, “I always wanted to be a part of that, whether it was [starring in] or helping direct it.”
Ultimately, her mother opposed her pursuing performing arts, which Ice Spice “was mad salty about for years” as she believed she maybe “could have been the biggest director out of New York.” But, because the universe's timing is always right, she is now working with one of the biggest directors out of New York. What can we say? She's a baddie, she gets what she wants!
For now, High and Low doesn’t have a tentative release date, but according to IMDb, actors Jeffrey Wright and Ilfenesh Hadera are also attached to the project.
