To an action-flick fan like myself, being chauffeured in a Mercedes-Benz to an eighteenth-century London members-only club to rendezvous with a real Bond girl seems a bit like life imitating art (even if I did leave my white dinner jacket at home).

Gemma Arterton, whose extensive stage and screen credits include the heroine in Ibsen's play The Master Builder and a warrior woman in Clash of the Titans, still beams when I bring up the role that kicked her career into high gear. "I love talking about Quantum of Solace," she exclaims. "It was such a wild ride."
