So, Justin Bieber publicly congratulated his wife Hailey Bieber for her recent Vogue cover, but it wasn't quiiiite in the way you might think… and after seeing the internet's reaction, he edited the post and deleted the caption entirely.

On May 20, Justin Bieber shared Hailey's Vogue cover to his Instagram with a long caption that started off detailing a fight they once had. (???)

"Yo this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight," he wrote. "I told Hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue. Yikes I know, so mean." According to Justin, he felt “so disrespected” during the fight that he thought he had to “get even” with his wife and mother of his child — but he's since learned that also dealing a low verbal blow was probably not the right reaction.

"I think as we mature we realize that we’re not helping anything by getting even," Bieber wrote. “We’re honestly just prolonging what we really want which is intimacy and connection.”

The musician then ended his post by directly addressing Hailey: “So baby u already know but forgive me for saying u wouldn’t get a Vogue cover cuz clearly I was sadly mistaken.” (The Biebers were on the cover of Vogue back in 2019, but this is Hailey's first solo cover.)

But the internet had some thoughts about the singer's post, with hundreds of fans noting that it felt like Justin was belittling Hailey's achievements and “airing dirty laundry” about their marriage by sharing details about the aforementioned fight, especially during what should have been a celebratory and positive moment.

“You couldn't waterboard this information out of me lmao,” one fan wrote. “I love you Justin but what the f*ck,” another person wrote with a laughing emoji. “Ppl already think you hate your wife, why would you give them this?” wrote another.

The backlash seemed to make Justin rethink the post — about four hours after posting the original caption, he changed it to a (random?) series of emojis, including the shrug, pointing finger, heart hands, and tearful-smile emoji.

In her Vogue cover story, Hailey opened up about the constant scrutiny around her marriage and how — ironically — Justin helped her let go of the desire to fight back against online trolling. “I’ve learned so much from Justin, really," she shared in the interview. “He’s been doing this literally since he was a child… He was like, ‘Baby, trust me, I’ve been here before many, many times. You’re not going to win. There is no winning.’”

Justin also praised his wife via email for the story, saying, “I’ve done a lot of dumb things in my life, but the smartest thing I’ve ever done was marry Hailey.” Well, maybe that was what he should've written in his congratulatory caption.
