Demi Lovato's fiancé Jutes is sharing details about their engagement and proposal for the first time.
Back in December 2023, we first heard about Jutes and Demi Lovato's "personal and intimate" proposal. At the time, details remained sparse, aside from the fact that Jutes proposed with a "bespoke pear-shape diamond solitaire engagement ring created by N.Y.C. luxury jewelry boutique Material Good" and that they went out for dinner at Craig's in L.A. with friends and family shortly after.
During a recent interview on The Viall Files, Jutes got candid about his proposal to Lovato, sharing that he actually wrote a song to serenade the star with, guitar in tow. "I wrote a song," the star shared. "I'm not a guitar player, but I can kind of play some chords. So it took me like a week just to write the chords for this song. And then I wrote a song, and then I practiced it."
"Again, I'm not a guitar player, so rehearsing this song ends in 'Will you marry me?' was really difficult," he continued. "I would mess up three out of four times, so I was like when it comes time to do this I just got to get lucky and just nail it."
Jutes also shared that he “definitely almost broke down crying a few times.” When it came time to propose, Jutes enlisted the help of Lovato's team to "distract" the star, and then he posed the big question, to Lovato's surprise. "I knew that she wasn't expecting it when I did it, and that's why I did it then," Jutes shared, adding that he wanted to catch Lovato "off guard."
Lovato and Jutes met in early 2022 and went public with their relationship later that summer, making their red carpet debut in February 2023. "We became friends first. We were friends for several months, and then we decided to start dating," Lovato shared in an interview on SiriusXM's The Morning Mash Up.
Though Lovato might not have expected Jutes's proposal, he did share that they had talked about "wanting to be married and stuff like that" before the proposal.
Speaking to Teen Vogue earlier this year, Lovato shared that their wedding will take place in 2025 and that the couple is currently in the middle of planning. “I live and breathe for our connection,” Lovato said of Jutes. “Everything I do, I wish was with him. I see my future with him. I see growing old with him.”
Lovato also shared they envision having children with Jutes after they tie the know — though it might be a while until that wish becomes a reality since they are “not ready to give up [their] alone time with [Jutes]” just yet.
