Kendall Jenner is opening up about her place in her family and admitting she doesn’t feel — and has never really felt — like a Kardashian. The 27-year-old discussed her family dynamics in a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, where she revealed she’s always “felt out of place” within the Kardashian/Jenner clan.
“I was born into this life, but I didn’t choose this life,” Kendall told the publication, explaining that being in the public eye since she was in her tween years has always felt tough for her. (The OG Keeping Up With the Kardashians premiered on E! in 2007, when Kendall Jenner was only 11 years old.)
Kendall went on to explain that while she thinks some of her sisters, Kim Kardashian in particular, were “built” for a life in the spotlight and being chased by paparazzi, this is not the case for her. Kendall admitted it has taken her almost two decades in the limelight to come to terms with the fact that this is her life, but that doesn’t mean she resents her family. “I consider myself one of the luckiest people on the planet to be able to live the life that I live, but I do think that it’s challenging for me a lot more than it’s not,” she shared.

“I obviously understand I fall under the umbrella of the Kardashian sisters [but] it’s just weird to me… because I am just like my dad in so many ways,” Kendall continued. “I’m such a Jenner, in my opinion.” Still, it looks like that feeling is not quite strong enough to stop her from getting involved in a pretty Kardashian-centric spectacle: The Kardashians on Hulu, the rebranded and streaming-friendly follow-up to KUWTK, which premiered in 2022 and is now in its third season.
Though Kendall’s momager Kris Jenner does admit the original reality series was meant to be focused on her older children at the beginning, it’s clear that Kendall and Kylie naturally became a larger part of the conversation as they grew older (and more drama unfolded). Kris told WSJ that Kendall always felt reluctant to participate in the show and chose to be more of a character on the sidelines than a protagonist. (Except during that Pepsi fiasco, of course, and more recently, Cucumbergate.)
“I understood that she wanted to do it her way and distance herself when and if she wanted to,” Kris admitted about Kenny’s involvement on the show, during which she still gets significantly less screen time than her sisters, which is seemingly intentional. That said, Kendall still chose to become an executive producer on the Hulu show so we’re guessing the unspoken benefits of being linked to a show like The Kardashians far outweigh any tiny grievances you might have with your family’s lifestyles. Just the faintest of inklings, though. 🤷♀️
