One place Kim Kardashian may have drawn inspiration from for her Met Gala 2018 look? Her eighth-grade Catholic school uniform.
The reality star took to Instagram on Monday afternoon, just a few hours before the "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" themed red carpet, to share a shot of her teenage self-rocking a standard-issue polo shirt emblazoned with the name of her middle school. Considering this year's Costume Institute exhibit and event are all about the relationship between fashion and religion, it's clearly no coincidence that Kim chose to share the shot on the first Monday in May.
Though it's doubtful that Kim will show up in a full-on Catholic school uniform (though when it comes to the Kardashians and their sartorial choices, nothing is totally out of the question), it will be interesting to see what she decides to wear. The theme's religious nature brings up a fairly obvious potential controversy, and Kim hasn't exactly shied away from offending people with her outfits in the past. Though she was raised Christian, she sparked backlash last year after she was photographed in a sheer dress with a picture of the Virgin Mary on it. She was also previously criticized for selling Kimoji candles with pictures of herself dressed as the Virgin Mary on them.
“We know it could be controversial for right-wing or conservative Catholics and for liberal Catholics," the Met's head curator, Andrew Bolton, said last fall after the museum announced the theme.

In addition to scrolling through her old photos, Kim is also doing some other major Met Gala prep. She shared a shot of herself lounging in a bathrobe with curlers in her hair around 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon — just three and a half hours before red-carpet arrivals are scheduled to begin.
