A key player in this year's SAG Awards was actor Saniyya Sidney. She was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in King Richard and presented alongside her childhood heroes Venus and Serena Williams.
To commemorate such a special occasion, Saniyya took Teen Vogue behind the scenes as she got ready for the SAG Awards 2022. She shared the inspiration behind the look, her beauty routine, and her thoughts on reaching a new career milestone.
“This is the first time I am presenting at the SAG awards as well as [being] nominated for Best Ensemble,” Saniyya writes to Teen Vogue. “It is such an honor to be recognized by your peers. I wanted to represent the elegance of old Hollywood and all the great actors who came before me.”
Saniyya’s blue gown is from Zuhair Murad’s Spring 2022 Ready-to-Wear collection. She accessorized with a Jimmy Choo clutch and heels in addition to Yeprem jewels.
“The second I put it on I knew. Zuhair Murad makes gowns that are fit for royalty! Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of walking across that stage. The cut of this dress and its delicate train feels like my dream come true,” she explains.
Saniyya also shares her beauty routine, “I always begin with a clean, fresh face. I like to make sure my face is moisturized. I use a great moisturizer and an SPF to protect my skin, then I use vitamin C under-eye patches. Depending on the style, I usually begin with hair then makeup.”
Saniyya’s look was completed with the help of makeup artist Dana Delaney, hairstylist Michael David Warren, celebrity stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn, and manager Constance Tillotson. Saniyya writes, “My team and I love a relaxed, fun environment. I am always grateful for the days I get to play dress-up. And there [is] always a doggie or two around.”
Once glam is finished, it's time to put the whole look together. “The best is being all ready for my incredible stylist Alexandra Mandelkorn who fits the dress and hands over the sparkling jewels,” Saniyya writes. “I am counting the seconds for the entire fit! I love the regal feeling of it all.”
Amid her excitement, Saniyya takes a moment to express her gratitude, “For me, success becomes so when it’s shared. This day is a reflection of the heart and soul and dedication of so many to make this film, starting with the Willams family. I am so happy to share this forever memory with my entire team, my wonderful family, and my beloved King Richard cast who have also become my family. And I hope our film inspires all who watch it that they also have the power to make their dreams come true.”
