Kit Connor is giving fans an update on the future of Heartstopper in a new interview with The Cut, getting candid about the longevity of the hit Netflix series.
Following the release of Heartstopper season 3 back in October 2024, fans have been eagerly anticipating news about season 4, which is yet to be renewed by Netflix. Though Kit Connor is hard at work promoting Warfare, the star did take a minute to address the interest in the future of Heartstopper, giving fans a succinct answer.
Though Connor gave no specific update on Heartstopper season 4, he did admit he's ready to close the chapter when the time is right, admitting neither he nor the show's crew wants to keep “making it just for the sake of making it.” He added: “You don’t want to see Olivia Colman driving a 30-year-old Kit Connor to high school.” (ICYMI: Olivia Colman played Connor's on-screen mother, Sarah Nelson, during seasons one and two of the hit Netflix show.)
Now, while Connor's comments might seem unchallengeable, they also leave room for a lot to be done, considering that he has only just turned 21. That said, the fact that Heartstopper is approaching its end shouldn't come as a surprise to fans of the show and novels. Creator Alice Oseman has previously stated that should the series be renewed for a fourth season, it would be the final one.
Oseman has explained that Heartstopper season 4, which they are hopeful will get the green light from Netflix soon, will adapt Volume Six of the Heartstopper graphic novels, which they are currently in the middle of writing.
Oseman has expressed their desire for the show to continue with "a proper ending" and shared that they'd likely be writing the scripts for season 4 while working on the final volume regardless of renewal status. However, they are adamant that Heartstopper season 4 will not premiere before Volume Six even if it does get renewed.
“I really, extremely, devoutly need the Volume 6 book to come out before season 4 comes out, so people experience the end of the story from the books first. So there's a timer counting down now,” they previously shared. And, well, Connor seems to agree.
