Remember Kyemah McEntyre, the girl who recently designed that unbelievable prom dress that shut down haters? We had a feeling this 18-year-old was destined for sartorial fame, and it looks like she’s well on her way.
During last night’s BET Awards, one of Kyemah’s designsher second ever, to be exactcasually strolled down the red carpet on one of the celebrity attendees. That’s right, she’s already getting orders from Hollywood.
Singer Naturi Naughton (of 3LW famewho can forget criminally underrated classic "Playas Gon’ Play"?) contacted the New Jersey teen after seeing all the coverage her handmade prom dress received. "[Naturi] explained to me that she wanted to connect with her African roots as well," Kyemah told the Necole Bitchie blog. "She wanted to shed light on young people from her community and that she did."
As with her prom dress, Kyemah enlisted the help of a local seamstress to bring her vision to life. The red carpet dress featured a mermaid-style shape along with an orange v-neck top and beautiful African-printed skirt. And her first celeb client was thrilled with the outcome. Naturi tweeted that she loved her dress and felt like a Nubian Queen in it.
Kyemah will be attending Parsons School of Design in NYC in the fall, so we’re sure we’ll be seeing her designs hitting the red carpet much more in the future. She’s definitely one to keep an eye on!
