Laufeycore has made it to Teen Vogue Summit, and appeared by way of its namesake, the one and only Laufey.

The 25-year-old Icelandic-Chinese jazz-pop vocalist performed and spoke with Teen Vogue executive editor Danielle Kwateng on November 23 in Hollywood for the magazine's annual in-person event. The singer spoke earnestly about her music, career journey, and what she has in store for her next era post-Bewitched.

“I’m so tempted to play new music right now,” Laufey said on Saturday, holding her guitar onstage. “But I don’t know if I’m allowed!”

The singer ultimately performed her hits “Bored,” “From The Start,” and “Letter To My 13 Year Old Self." While singing “Bored,” Laufey accidentally forgot the lyrics and stopped her song midway through to ask the audience for help with the words. “I’ve been off tour for two months and my brain is already scrambled,” she laughed. “Thank you for helping me with that, you guys are the best.”

Those three tracks can all be found on Bewitched: The Goddess Edition, released earlier this year in March; the original version of the album earned Laufey her first Grammy nomination and first-ever Grammy award at the 2024 ceremony, for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Between three EPs, one holiday album, and two studio albums, Laufey has amassed over 3 billion streams across all digital streaming platforms, and is the most streamed and followed artist from Iceland in the world.

Laufey talked a bit about her approach to songwriting and taking inspiration from a multitude of places, from the TV shows she watches to her friends’ love lives. “I'm a 25 year old girl in LA,” she joked. “All my friends have horrid stories, so it's kind of like an endless well of inspiration.”

During her mini-set, the singer wore a navy blazer and skirt set with a cream collar and knee-high white socks with loafers. Laufey is well-known for her hyperfeminine, ethereal style — aka Laufeycore — and recently made headlines with the floral gown she wore to the Los Angeles premiere of her concert film Laufey's A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl. In 2023, Laufey described Laufeycore to Teen Vogue as “timeless with maybe a little bit of an edge, which is actually maybe a little girly.”

In October, Laufey had attended the premiere of another concert film, for her close friend Olivia Rodrigo's Netflix movie Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour. Laufey opened up about her friendship with the “All-American B*tch” singer further at Teen Vogue Summit 2024, declaring this era in music “the age of the female songwriter.”

“Love Olivia Rodrigo, I’m such a fangirl. I just went to Sabrina [Carpenter’s] tour as well and it was amazing,” she gushed.

“These women are putting on real shows. Beabadoobee… I’m just talking about my friends at this point,” she laughed, also praising Faye Webster and The Marias.

Looking towards 2025, Laufey teased new collaborations and a new album. “I’m really excited to go into this next era… I want to say true to myself and my values [but] I’m excited about what’s to come.”
