One Direction members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik have all paid their last respects to Liam Payne at a private funeral that took place today, November 20, at the St Mary's Church in Amersham, in the Home Counties of England.
As reported by multiple British outlets, including the BBC, Payne's funeral service, complete with a wake, was slated to take place just over a month after the star's death was reported in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Autopsy reports shared earlier this month confirmed Payne's cause of death as "multiple trauma" injuries sustained from the third-floor fall from his hotel balcony.
Payne was laid to rest in the Home Counties during a private funeral attended by his family members — including his parents, Karen and Geoff Payne — and friends only, including his fellow One Direction members. Louis, Niall, and Zayn were the first to be seen on site. Harry arrived shortly after.
Following Payne's death, the One Direction members took to social media to share both a joint statement and individual condolences. The four members said they were "completely devastated" by the news.
"In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly," their statement continued. Plenty of others also mourned Payne publicly.
Payne's girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who had traveled with him to Argentina, was seen arriving at the church for Payne's funeral with model Damian Hurley. Singers Jamie Scott, Kimberley Walsh, and Nicola Roberts also paid his respects, as did late-night host James Corden. Cheryl Tweedey, Payne's ex-girlfriend and mother of his son Bear, was also in attendance and was photographed alongside Payne's parents.
The late star received multiple flower crowns during the ceremony, including two that read “daddy” and “son," as well as a floral arrangement in the form of bowling pins and a ball. Payne's coffin arrived at St Mary's in a horse-drawn carriage adorned by white roses and the aforementioned crowns.
