Lily-Rose Depp is defending Johnny Depp in light of Amber Heard's accusations of domestic violence against him. After Amber filed for a restraining order against her father, Lily-Rose posted an Instagram asserting that he is "the sweetest."
"My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know," she wrote. "He's been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same."

Of course, Lily-Rose has every right to stand up for her dad, but that doesn't mean we ought to assume his innocence based on this post. (Also, no, TMZ, she is not "throwing shade," she is contributing her voice to an extremely complex domestic crisis.)
Still, it is worth noting that plenty of abusers are sweet to their children, and even to other partners. Sweetness doesn't change the fact that millions of women are silenced by violence each year.
Here are some statics from Safe Horizon, which are worth recognizing regardless of your opinion around this whole Johnny Depp mess.
