Lizzo just made the recorder a bad b*tch instrument. Yes, the recorder. Do you remember learning the recorder in elementary school? Just by reading the word "recorder," I'm instantly transported back to fourth grade music class and a cacophony of shrieking whistle sounds attempting to play "Hot Cross Buns." But it turns out the recorder isn't an instrument of auditory torture, and can actually sound beautiful — just ask Lizzo.
The flautist took us all to task with her recorder skills on Twitter, posting a video of herself mastering the instrument with a snippet of "My Heart Will Go On" from the Titanic soundtrack. "Lizzo stuns in new recorder video," the star wrote to intro her recorder skills, poking fun at the celeb news accounts who often use similar captions. In short, Lizzo's rendition of the song is... beautiful? Actually melodic? Not a horrific, high-pitched warning squawk emanating at the highest volume from a classroom full of tweens? I guess we just needed a classically trained musician like Lizzo to show us the ropes.

Fans were quick to respond to the video and call out their own recorder memories. "This is how elementary school me thought I sounded," wrote one. "This is pretty decent don’t get me wrong, but the way I play Hot Cross Buns just hits different," joked another. "This is literally the only time a recorder has ever sounded good," added another. Agreed. Elementary schoolchildren, take note!

Lizzo didn't just show off her recorder skills on Twitter; she actually played the divisive instrument live onstage in Australia. As noted by BuzzFeed, Lizzo was handed a recorder in Sydney and made magic with it. "Thank you to the Aussies for giving me this... let me see if I can get sound coming out," she said, playing the instrument with precision after one impressively brief minute of practice. Lizzo probably won't replace her trusty flute Sasha with this recorder anytime soon, but it's fun to know that she could whip out a mean cover of "Hot Cross Buns" at any given moment.
