Malia Obama just found the cutest shoe of the summer, and it's probably not what you think it is.
When you think summer shoes, you probably think flip-flops, Tevas, Birkenstocks, and slides — traditional summery sandals, if you will. But this summer, it might be time to try something different: the clog! The shoe trend now has a stamp of approval from the Malia Obama. She styled it with a low-key look you'll want to wear everywhere. (We know we do!)
Obama's shoes made a cameo as she left a workout class; the filmmaker was dressed in exercise gear, including leggings and an oversized top, and she carried an orange yoga mat over one shoulder. On her feet were white Adidas ankle socks and a pair of simple flat black clogs. While you might expect her to be wearing sneakers to and from the gym or yoga studio, the clogs make a lot of sense too, as you can easily slip in and out of them to take your place on the mat.
We weren't entirely surprised to see clogs pop up on Obama, as we spotlighted them as one of the 11 biggest shoe trends to watch out for in 2025. The clog popped up on the runways during global Fashion Month, but the longtime popularity of the Birkenstock Boston Clog, Ugg slipper, and Crocs definitely paved the way for the more traditional clog to make a comeback.
“Clogs are back—and they’re cooler than ever. Call it the Chloé effect, but these aren’t the chunky shoes your mom wore. Picture sleek, elevated designs with studs and edgy hardware. It’s the ultimate cool-girl twist for fall 2025,” stylist Candice Lambert told Teen Vogue.
Sure, clogs do feel a lot like a fall shoe, but as Obama proves, they're ready to tag along on all your summer errands and adventures too; they look just as cute with a dress as they do with dressed-down leggings. Clog summer, here we come!
