Paramore brought out the first Gen Z member of Congress on stage Friday night to deliver a special and yet poignant message about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The band's frontwoman Hayley Williams welcomed Florida Rep. Maxwell Frost (D), 26, to the stage during Paramore's Washington, D.C. concert Friday night to help sing the bridge of their hit song, “Misery Business.”

Before diving into the song, Williams asked Frost if he had a message he wanted to give to the people. Frost proudly proclaimed: “F**K Ron DeSantis! F**K fascism!” The Congressman was met with a loud roar of applause and a giddy Williams. Frost doubled down on his statement later on Twitter, writing “I said what I said.”

Frost also posted a video of him singing the bridge to “Misery Business” and rocking out on stage to the song with the caption, “Very grateful for this moment. I've been practicing in the shower for YEARS.”

Earlier this week, Williams also condemned anyone who supported Florida's Republican governor, who officially announced he would be running for president in the 2024 election

“If you vote for Ron DeSantis, you're f***ing dead to me,” Williams said during Paramore's concert in New Jersey earlier this week, after saying she was “comfortable talking politics.”

DeSantis has positioned himself as an “anti-woke” conservative candidate who is blatantly anti-LGBTQ+, anti-abortion, and anti-vax during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The governor signed into law the nicknamed “Don't Say Gay” bill — officially titled Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Act — which caught nationwide attention and even sparked a battle between DeSantis and Disney. The media conglomerate, which is one of Florida's largest employers, openly condemned the law at the time.

Williams is a fervent LGBTQ+ supporter and has previously criticized anti-trans legislation in her home state of Tennessee, calling them “regressive and unfathomably harmful.”

Frost has also openly opposed DeSantis and previously called the governor's practices an abuse of power, and is “using the state to target political opponents and political enemies.”

“And there’s a word for that, and it’s fascism, and we have to be honest about it,” Frost said.
