If you thought Challengers star Mike Faist was planning to nod to that churro scene from the movie at the Met Gala 2024 you'll be disappointed — but the actor did incorporate a foodie touch into his 'fit for the red carpet, and a very unexpected one at that.

Faist made his Met Gala debut wearing a black Loewe tuxedo jacket and white shirt with a huge, bedazzled turnip pinned to the black satin lapel — a fun, cheeky touch against the more formal silhouette of his jacket. Most people would pin a flower to that spot, but not Faist! He's taking the “Garden of Time” theme in a different direction with another garden delight: a big, bejeweled veggie. But what does it mean? That remains to be seen; perhaps Faist will share the details of the turnip during the celebration, but it does fit the theme, and it's funny and cute too, as is his jaunty bowtie.

If you're not familiar with the churro scene, it's one of the most, shall-we-say charged scenes of the 2024 film, in which Faist and his costar Josh O'Connor, who play dueling tennis stars, tease while sharing the cinnamon sugar dessert. According to O'Connor, he ate his first churro ever while filming the movie, which is certainly a memorable way to try the famous treat.

Are we ditching flowers for turnips this season? Mike Faist does make a pretty compelling case for wearing an unconventional veggie accessory for a formal event.
