The 2024 VMAs are almost here, which means some incredible live performances are headed our way soon. Throughout the year, the MTV VMAs have become the perfect closer for the summer season, delivering everything from history-making red carpet looks to incredible performances, drama, memes, and everything in between.
The MTV VMAs 2024, hosted by thee hot girl coach Megan Thee Stallion, are bound to be even more special, as the celebration will mark the 40th anniversary of the event. Earlier this month, MTV unveiled the list of nominees for the VMAs 2024 with Taylor Swift leading with 12 noms. (She was also the most nominated artist in 2023 and actually ended up taking the most trophies home, too!)
Fellow nominees include Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, Lisa, Olivia Rodrigo, Tyla, LE SSERAFIM, Chappell Roan, RAYE, Coco Jones, Gracie Abrams, NCT Dream, Rauw Alejandro, Victoria Monét, and many more.

"Katy’s prowess will be on full display live on the VMAs with a can’t-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits."

Katy Perry
As the Video Vanguard Award recipient, Katy Perry will return to the VMAs stage for the first time since 2017, when she also acted as a host. As mentioned above, Perry, a five-time VMAs winner, will take to the stage with a medley of her hit tracks that will serve as a walk through her career. The singer most recently put out her new singles “Woman's World” and “Lifetimes” this summer, which will be part of her upcoming album 143, which will be released on September 20 via Capitol Records.
Camila Cabello
Camila Cabello has previously performed three times at the VMAs, and she'll return this year for a fourth as a four-time winner. The Grammy nominee is expected to put on a show based around her fourth studio album, C, XOXO, which came out this past June. Cabello is also nominated in the Best Pop category. If she wins, it will mark her fifth Moon Person award, the perfect number for round five in 2025. BACARDÍ Rum, one of the VMAs sponsors, will also debut a special fan tribute for Cabello during the show.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan's star continues to grow. Following a slew of more than successful appearances at various festivals around the world, Roan will make her VMAs debut this year as an attendee, nominee, and performer. Roan is expected to perform tracks from her acclaimed album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess while potentially also taking home a Moon Person for Best New Artist and MTV Push Performance of the Year.
GloRilla
GloRilla is having an amazing year, and the 2024 MTV VMAs will be the cherry on top. The Grammy-nominated star, who's been on tour with Megan Thee Stallion for a lot of the summer, recently became the longest-charting female rap hitmaker of 2024 with “Yeah Glo” reaching the Top 40 on Billboard’s Hot 100 list. A five-time VMAs nominee, this will mark her performing debut at the awards, during which she'll also be up for three Moon Persons, including Best Hip-Hop and Best Collaboration for “Wanna Be” with, who else, Megan Thee Stallion.
Rauw Alejandro
Rauw Alejandro will also make his VMAs debut as both a performer and a nominee during the 2024 show. The Latin Grammy winner is for a Moon Person in three categories: Best Latin, Best Cinematography, and Best Choreography, all for his song “Touching The Sky.” Alejandro is expected to make a debut performance from his forthcoming fifth studio album, which he's been teasing all summer as being inspired by West Side Story and Broadway.
Sabrina Carpenter
Following a pre-show performance in 2023, Sabrina Carpenter will make her debut at the VMAs main stage this year. Carpenter, who's also a first-time nominee, is up for six Moon Persons during the VMAs 2024, including the coveted artist and song of the year. Her performance will arrive shortly after the release of her new album, Short n’ Sweet, on August 23 and just before she heads on tour.
Benson Boone
Benson Boone, whom you might recognize from the TikTok-viral “Beautiful Things," will be performing for the very first time at the VMAs this year. Boone's VMAs performance will arrive shortly after he opened for one of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour stops in London's Wembley Stadium and before he continues his own Fireworks and Rollerblades World Tour. Boone is also a first-time nominee this year, racking nods in three categories: Best New Artist, Best Alternative, and MTV PUSH Performance of the Year.
Halsey
Halsey is set to return to the VMAs stage after five years to present their forthcoming album, which will include singles “The End," “Lonely is the Muse," and “Lucky.” Halsey last graced the MTV VMAs red carpet in 2019 when they took home a Moon Person for Best K-Pop with BTS for their hit collab “Boy With Luv.”
Lenny Kravitz
Lenny Kravitz will perform at the 2024 VMAs, marking his return to the VMAs after 26 years. Kravitz made his VMAs debut in 1993, performing “Are You Gonna Go My Way." His last performance at the VMAs was in 1998 when he joined Madonna on the guitar in a performance of “Ray of Light.” Not only will Kravitz be making his grand return to the stage, but he's also looking to take home a Moon Person during the evening as his single “Human," released in April of 2024, which MTV describes as “self-reflecting," is nominated for a VMA this year in the Best Rock category. Kravitz's performance will also feature guest appearances from Doechii and Quavo.
LISA
Lisa is cementing her status as a solo star with a performance at the VMAs 2024, which will also serve as her solo debut on the main MTV stage. After becoming the first soloist to win Best K-pop in 2022, which she attended with her fellow BLACKPINK members, Lisa is expected to perform her new singles, “Rockstar” and “New Woman,” which features Spanish singer Rosalía. Aside from joining the performers list, Lisa is also nominated for Best K-pop, Best Editing, Best Choreography, and Best Art Direction for “Rockstar.”
Anitta
Brazilian superstar Anitta will take to the stage at the 2024 MTV VMAs for the third consecutive time this September. The singer is expected to perform a medley of her hit tracks “Savage Funk” and “Alegría.” She will also debut “Paradise” with guest appearances by Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, and Tiago PZK. In 2022, Anitta made VMAs history, becoming the first-ever Brazilian to win at the event. She's taken home the award for Best Latin twice and hopes to keep the strike going this year with 3/3.
Karol G
Fresh off the success of her Mañana Será Bonito World Tour, the highest-grossing Latin tour by a woman in boxscore history, Colombian superstar Karol G is taking her show to the VMAs 2024. The artist, who made her VMAs debut just last year performing "Oki Doki" and “Tá Ok” while taking home Best Collaboration with Shakira, is back for her second Moon Person with a nomination under Best Latin for “Mi Ex Tenía Razón.”
LL Cool J
Last year, Long Island native LL Cool J returned to the VMAs stage for the first time since 1997, when he was the Video Vanguard recipient, for the event's 50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop tribute alongside Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Run-DMC, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, and Grand Master Flash. This year, LL Cool J will be back on the show — this time on his own, or at least that's what's announced so far — with a performance of his upcoming album, The Force, which MTV is already deeming unmissable.
Shawn Mendes
Shawn Mendes will also take to the VMAs stage this September ahead of the release of his fifth studio album, the self-titled Shawn, which is scheduled for an October 18 release. Mendes, who put out singles “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough” to coincide with his birthday on August 8, is set to put on the first televised performance from the album. (So, yes, that means Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, and Sabrina Carpenter will all reunite at the event.)
Megan Thee Stallion
Not only will Megan Thee Stallion serve as a host for the 2024 MTV VMAs, but she will also take to the stage as one of the performers for the night. The “Mamushi” star, who has another collab with BTS's RM coming soon, has been having her most viral summer to date with her hit collab with Yuki Chiba, part of her Megan album, and will keep the streak going at the VMAs. Aside from taking on double duty, Megan is also nominated for five awards during the night, including Best Collaboration and Best Hip-Hop.
Jessie Murph
American singer and songwriter and MTV PUSH artist Jessie Murph will make her VMAs debut at this year’s show, taking on the Extended Play Stage presented by Doritos®. Murph just released her first studio album, That Ain’t No Man That’s The Devil, this September. She is also nominated for two categories during the 2024 VMAs: Best Collaboration and MTV PUSH Performance of the Year for her song “Wild Ones” featuring Tennessee-born Jelly Roll.
Teddy Swims
Fellow MTV PUSH artist Teddy Swims will also be taking to VMAs stage for the first time during this year’s awards. The American singer-songwriter is expected to perform standout tracks "Lose Control" and "The Door" live at the Extended Play Stage presented by Doritos®. After debuting at 99 in 2024, "Lose Control” reached number one on Billboard’s coveted Hot 100 in 2024. Swims will also look forward to taking his first Moon Person home during the night, as he has been nominated for four awards, including Song of the Year.
LE SSERAFIM
Another MTV PUSH performer debuting at the VMAs this year is K-pop girl group LE SSERAFIM. The Source Music quintet, who has just released their fourth mini album Crazy, has been tapped to perform during the official VMAs Pre-Show, where we saw Sabrina Carpenter last year. The performance will mark LE SSERAFIM’s U.S. award show debut. Another first? The girls are first-time nominees and will be fighting for the MTV PUSH Performance of the Year award.
Eminem
Eminem will return to serve as the official opener for the 2024 VMAs after last taking on the role in 2010. He will perform what’s being touted as the first TV show performance of his 12th studio album, The Death of Slim Shady, released this past July. According to MTV, Eminem is walking VMAs history as he is tied for the most Moon Persons wins with Peter Gabriel. He has been nominated for eight Moon Person awards this year, including Best Hip-Hop and Song of the Summer, so he could become the most celebrated male artist in the show’s history.
