The Legend of Zelda, Elden Ring, and now also Assassin's Creed — live-action adaptations of video games are officially on the up.
Since its launch in 2007 by the French company Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed has become one of the most successful game franchises of all time, with over 30 games and spin-offs released and more than 230 million units sold. Now, the IP is expanding into the TV territory, getting a live-action series, courtesy of Netflix, with the help of Emmy nominees Roberto Patino (known for DMZ, Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming, The Killing), who will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers on Netflix's Assassin's Creed live-action series.

What will Netflix's Assassin's Creed live-action series be about?
The Assassin's Creed games feature multiple stories, each set in a different time period, but they all follow members of the Order of the Assassins, whose memories are accessed via a virtual reality machine known as The Animus.
While we don't know exactly which storyline the series will adapt, Margaret Boykin, executive producer and head of content at Ubisoft Film & Television, teased that the show will serve as an introduction to "unforgettable worlds and timeless themes to new audiences worldwide.”
As shared by Netflix, the show's official logline is as follows: “Assassin's Creed is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.” (In the games, the shadowy factions are the Order of Assassins and the Knights Templar.)
“We’ve been fans of Assassin's Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin's Creed opens to us,” Wiener and Patino said in a joint statement. “Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. It is about power and violence and sex and greed and vengeance. But more than anything, this is a show about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time. And it’s about what we stand to lose as a species when those connections break."
Does Netflix's Assassin's Creed live-action series have a release date?
At the time of writing, Netflix has yet to announce a tentative release date for the Assassin's Creed live-action series. However, we know the project has been brewing for a while — five years, to be exact.
The live-action series will be the first project under Netflix’s agreement with Ubisoft for Assassin's Creed, which was first announced in October 2020 and covered live-action, animated, and anime series adaptations. The show was at the time described as an “epic, genre-bending live action adaptation.”
“When we first announced our partnership with Ubisoft in 2020, we set out with an ambitious goal to bring the rich, expansive world of Assassin's Creed to life in bold new ways,” Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s vice president of scripted series, said in a press release in July 2025. “Now, after years of dedicated collaboration, it’s inspiring to see just how far that vision has come. Guided by the deft hands of Roberto Patino and David Wiener, the team has carefully crafted an epic adventure that both honors the legacy of the Assassin's Creed franchise and invites longtime fans and newcomers alike to experience the thrill of the Brotherhood as never before.”
