If you have been waiting for Joe Goldberg’s return since the fourth season of You ended in 2023, we've got good news: You Season 5, the show's final season has officially locked a 2025 release date, and it's fast approaching.

Netflix first renewed You for a fifth and final season back in the spring of 2023, shortly after the second part of season 4 premiered, announcing Sera Gamble would be stepping down as a showrunner with Michael Foley and Justin Lo taking over.

“As I step back from day-to-day showrunning to focus on new projects, I’m immensely grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros and Netflix,” Gamble said in a statement. “Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honor and ridiculously fun. And I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn Badgley. I’m proud of what we’ve all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch. I’m excited to watch and support the ‘You’ team as they bring Joe Goldberg’s journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”

To see what that delightfully twisted conclusion might look like, we have rounded up everything you need to know about You season 5 below.

Is there a trailer for You season 5?

Finally, yes. Following teasers aplenty, Netflix finally put out the official trailer for You season 5 on March 10, 2025. “Hello, you. You are back in the greatest city in the world thanks to the one person who could make it possible,” Joe Goldberg proclaims as flashes of his new life in New York City appear on the screen. “Fame definitely took a little bit of getting used to, but to live happily ever after you have to bury your old self,” he continues, as flashes of his past victims take over and Madeline Brewer as Bronte enters his life, tempting Joe to risk it all.

The next few scenes show Joe and Bronte getting more than a little acquainted and tease Joe's downfall questioning him as “humanitarian or homicidal maniac" as his cover is seemingly blown. “They made me the most visible man in New York,” Joe says next. “Kate, you are now safe. Who did you marry?” Kate's brother Teddy Lockwood, played by Griffin Matthews, says next.

Previously, Netflix had put a teaser trailer for You season 5 on Feb. 25, 2025. It featured Joe and Kate getting ready for a fancy event — and taking us back to where this whole saga began, New York City. “Love tests on us. I’ve been tested more than most,” Joe narrates in a voiceover. “This is the last time. I came from nothing, a true rags-to-riches story. I’ve been through it all. Unlucky in life and in love until I met you, Kate,” he continues, splitting between old and new thoughts. “We’re using our power for the better to help those who aren’t as lucky. Who knew I’d become the luckiest guy in New York?” the teaser ends.

Prior to that, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for You season 5 on January 30, 2025. “Hello, you,” Joe Goldberg says in the clip, talking to us as if we were one of his victims in The Cage. “Let's get to know each other better before we bid one last farewell. Goodbye, you.” You can watch it below:

On January 17, 2025, Netflix released another teaser for You season 5 with a special date announcement clip. In the opening, we see Joe Goldberg return to Mooney's Rare & Used Books. As Joe reflects on the past few years and all the “complications” that came with his new cities and lovers, he descends into the basement of the bookstore.

“But all that led me here to now, to where I was always meant to be. And the one constant, the one thing that has always been there for me, is… you.” “Goodbye, you," Joe says again as the promise of a “killer finale” flashes on-screen. You can also watch the teaser below:

And on March 27, Netflix also released a full series trailer for the franchise to “prepare for the final chapter,” an almost two-minute look at Joe's past and all that's waiting for him in season 5. In the trailer, we see Joe hunt all of the loves of his life in search of his soulmate over five seasons of “seduction, struggles, and secrets.”

On March 27, Netflix release a brand-new poster for You season 5, which shows Joe and Bronte standing in the new bookstore, each holding books. Joe looks directly at the camera while Bronte stares at Joe, seeming extremely endeared — or is that a look of suspicion?

Netflix had previously put out two additional posters for You season 5 on December 19, 2024. The posters position Joe Goldberg in the center with multiple trinkets and people from the past teasing a haunting comeback. The posters have been titled as “A killer goodbye” and “Guilty treasures,” so yeah, we are in for a ride. You can check them out below:

What will You season 5 be about?

Would it be You without a little drama? You season 5 will be all about Joe Goldberg, of course, and will pick up right from You season 4 left off. In case you need a refresher, the majority of the show's fourth season took place in London, but the final episode saw Joe return to New York with Kate — but things will not be as smooth as they anticipate.

According to the official logline shared by Netflix for season 5 of You: “Joe Goldberg returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after… until his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires.” The streamer is using only one episode to describe the fifth and final season of the hit show: epic.
