“Gucci has always been a fact,” Nettspend tells Teen Vogue. We caught up with the 19-year-old at his hotel ahead of his ‘Early Life Crisis’ event at the Gucci store in New York City's Soho neighborhood. As he sits in the hair-and-makeup chair, signing CDs for the upcoming fan event, he muses on how much he loves his fans and younger siblings, but mostly he's just excited about this event that's been a long time in the making.
He's been working with Gucci since designer Demna took over as the brand's creative director in 2025. This event celebrated the launch of Generation Gucci and recognized the relationship between Nettspend and the brand. At the store, mannequins were dressed in some of the looks that he's worn both on and off the runway, including the purple shortsleeve shirt and cross body bag he wore recently. A big screen played his major moments with the brand, and fans got signed copies of “Early Life Crisis.”
For the event, he had two looks. An arrival look, which was a red velvet set with marching slippers, matched to his pink and burgundy hair.
In the last two years, Nettspend has become one of the faces of a new generation of hip hop artists. But, like his predecessors, fashion is a huge part of his music. “It kind of comes naturally,” he explains. “I trust the people around me, but it's always hand in hand.”
It's not just in videos or concerts that fashion intersects; he's also walked the runway for both Miu Miu and Gucci. But when asked which type of performance he prefers, “Definitely the stage,” he says. “I make the runway my stage.”
The event was mostly for his fans, another moment in Nettspend's admitted commitment to them. When his last album was delayed, he made a tip line for his fans to air their grievances. On this evening, fans crowded onto Wooster Street around the car Nettspend was sitting in. One fan takes off her sneaker and passes it through the crowd until it reaches him through the passenger-side window. He signs it, and they screech with excitement. "I love all my fans so much," he says. "I wish that I could see them and be with them every day. I like to take care of people."
