In the wake of a terrorist attack in southern France, cities around the world have illuminated their historic buildings and monuments in the colors of the French flag to show solidarity with the city.

During a Bastille Day celebration Thursday night, along Nice's Promenade des Anglais, a man plowed a truck through the crowds, killing at least 84 (including several children) and seriously injuring at least 200 others. (Two Americans are among those confirmed dead.) The truck driver was fatally shot by police.

See how some of the cities around the world honored Nice's victims in red, white, and blue, below.

Several world leaders also made somber statements on the attack, including President Barack Obama, who said: "On this Bastille Day, we are reminded of the extraordinary resilience and democratic values that have made France and inspiration to the entire world, and we know that the character of the French Republic will endure long after this devastating and tragic loss of life."

And British Prime Minister Theresa May reassured that Britain stands "shoulder to shoulder" with France.
