There’s several ways to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future, but Nike might’ve just topped them all. A few years ago Nike filed a patent for an “Automatic Lacing System," leading us to believe we can all be Marty McFly one day with our own pairs of self-lacing shoes.

October 21, 2015 — which is today — is when McFly traveled to the future in the film, so it's presumably not a coincidence that Nike just made a huge announcement about the magical shoes sneakerheads have been dreaming about since 1989. According to Nike spokeswoman Heidi Burgett, the future is now.

Nike’s official Twitter account also teased their followers with the news last night, with a cryptic tweet at Michael J. Fox who played McFly in the classic film.

Judging by Fox’s response to Nike which featured a sweet letter from the brand, his own pair of Nike Mag shoes will be delivered to him shortly.

There’s no telling if the official Nike Mag shoes will be dropping in stores today or anytime soon, but we’re crossing our fingers that we get a sneak peek at that first pair in New York!
