Last week, Nordstrom decided to stop carrying Ivanka Trump's fashion brand in its department stores. While Nordstrom claimed to "make buying decisions based on performance" in a statement sent to Teen Vogue, many had a feeling the decision had something to do with Ivanka's father's discriminatory travel ban, among other controversial policies. Now, there's some stronger evidence supporting that.
The Stranger, a Seattle-based newspaper, shared an email that Nordstrom allegedly sent out to its employees. The email, sent out to the entire company by Peter, Blake and Erik Nordstrom, outlines their support of immigration and diverse communities. At Nordstrom, Blake serves as President, Pete is the President of Merchandising and Erik is the President of Nordstrom Direct.
Here is the email in full, as per The Stranger:
The email makes it clear that Nordstrom is not in support of Donald Trump's policies, even though they have not publicly stated so. The note was sent to company employees on Tuesday, January 31, and news broke that the retail chain would be dropping Ivanka's brand just three days later, on February 3.
And in lesser-discussed news, Ivanka stepped down from her fashion brand last month, though she still has ties to her fine jewelry line. While it's unclear if she's still profiting from the brand, the news does prove the #GrabYourWallets boycott is making a significant impact.
