Madelyn Cline is getting emotional on main as she prepares to say goodbye to Outer Banks.
Cline and her costars are about to begin shooting the fifth and final season of the massively popular Netflix series, and she's very in her feelings about it — which makes sense, given that OBX has been a huge part of her life (and ours!) since it premiered in 2020, and the tough reality that we only get one more season of Cline as Kook-turned-Pogue Sarah Cameron is setting in.
On May 18, Cline posted a TikTok about the final season, saying she was “emotional this morning” as she prepared to film. “I have so many feelings about it but mostly I just feel so grateful,” she wrote. “We're so excited to go back one last time.”
After thousands of fans flooded the comments to share in her despair — “Sarah Cameron is never over," cried one person — Cline came back to the post to comment a hilarious apology: “I'm sorry. I woke up and chose cutting onions.”

(Spoiler alert for Outer Banks season 4 ahead!) When we last left our Carolinian treasure hunters in season 4, JJ had just been killed by his estranged father. Several of the Pogues believed “revenge” was the next logical step, as a way of dealing with their grief. After the season 4 finale, creators Shannon Burke and Josh and Jonas Pate told Teen Vogue that JJ's death is the catalyst for all of season's 5 big plot points.
“It's the main spine of the rest of the series, basically. It's going to change them,” Burke told us. “They began as kids who just wanted to have a good time all the time, and now they've gone the full spectrum now, where one of them has died in a terrible way. We're just hoping to play that out and take them on this long journey and end it in the right way.”
Josh Pate added that they showrunner trio had always planned for the story to end within five seasons. “It's really a dream come true to be able to do that, because we originally thought it would be five seasons, and we're just getting to tell the story we set out to tell," said Pate, “So we feel really fortunate.”
Cline isn't the only one feeling all the feels about the end of Outer Banks. Her costar (and ex-boyfriend) Chase Stokes, who plays John B, re-shared the season 5 announcement with a message of his own.
“My [heart's] heavy writing this one. One last ride," he wrote. "Thank you to everybody who has tuned in these past 5 years. You’ve given us more than we could ever give back to you. It’s always gonna be Pogues 4 Life.”
It's safe to say that fans are also not ready to say goodbye. That aforementioned flood of comments on Cline's TikTok, included fans asking for “tips how not to cry while watching s5” and mournfully declaring that “I don't wanna cry everyday [sic] for the rest of my life." Some said that they felt like they grew up with the cast, while others praised Cline for her portrayal of Sarah Cameron.

To lift the mood, Cline then posted a second TikTok asking fans to share their favorite continuity errors or plot holes to make her laugh. Her fave? When the crew took a ferry to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, which she points out is “in the middle of the state.”
Costar Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara, chose the fact that sometimes the characters' phones work and sometimes they won't, while costar Carlacia Grant, who plays Cleo, said hers was definitely “taking a ship all the way from OBX to Morocco and only stopping for gas once.” Other popular picks were Sarah “surviving her pregnancy with one apple,” John B quickly healing from an alligator bite, and how, exactly, a group of teenagers “stranded with no food somehow always had energy to run through jungles, solve clues, and fight grown men.”
Oh, Outer Banks, we will miss you!
