Calling all demigods! If you enjoyed season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, it's officially time to start the countdown for season three. (Yes, finally, we've reached the on-screen longevity that fans of the Percy Jackson book series, first published in 2005, have been manifesting for years.)

After two books in the New York Times-bestselling pentalogy were adapted into films during the 2010s, famously starring Logan Lerman in the title role, fans spent nearly a decade publicly requesting that Hollywood take another crack at adapting the novels for the screen. Many were dissatisfied with the quality of the movies, including Percy Jackson author and YA fantasy legend Rick Riordan. Back in June 2020, Riordan revealed that he had never actually seen the two films, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, and called the two adaptations a “mess” in since-deleted tweets.

“After the movie experience, I basically wrote off Hollywood for a long, long time,” Riordan told Variety in October 2023. “I really didn’t want to have anything to do with the film industry. There were many years of me saying, ‘I don’t want to engage. I don’t want to think about other adaptations. I’m done.’ But when it started to become clear that something was going to happen with me or without me [for the Disney+ series], I had a long talk with Becky, my wife. We said, ‘Well, if something’s going to happen, it’s probably best to give it one more shot.’”

Now, fans can rest and rejoice. After becoming the most-watched show on Disney+ in 2024, the Percy Jackson live-action series with Riordan at the helm, fully titled Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has successfully returned for season two and is already setting sail for season three.

If you've already tuned into the season two finale and are dying to know more about what happens next, below, we've gathered everything we know so far about Percy Jackson and the Olympians season three, including release date, first look, plot details, and more.

When was Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 confirmed?

Deadline reported that Percy Jackson and the Olympians received the green light for an early season three renewal on March 14, 2025. News of the renewal came on the heels of the cast and crew winning eight trophies at the 3rd Annual Children’s & Family Emmys Winners, including Young Teen Series and Writing for a Young Teen Series.

“We have been greenlit for season three, even before season two debuts this December! We were pretty confident this news was coming eventually, but still—WOW,” Riordan wrote on his website. “I am eternally grateful, and I’m confident that if you liked season one, you will LOVE what is to come. ”

In a statement provided by Disney, Riordan added: “We’re so grateful to be continuing the story of Percy Jackson on Disney+. This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time. It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide!”

When does Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 come out?

This is where we rejoice because Disney+ has officially confirmed that Percy Jackson and the Olympians season three will come out sometime in 2026, and we have a feeling it will be towards the end of the year. For reference, Percy Jackson and the Olympians season two premiered on December 10, 2025, with the finale airing on January 21, 2026. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season one, on the other hand, arrived on December 20, 2023, “in celebration of Percy Jackson's birthday.” Much like season two, after a two-part premiere, episodes were released weekly.

As of August 8, 2025, season three has been in production in Vancouver, Canada. For reference, Percy Jackson and the Olympians season two wrapped filming in Vancouver in August 2025 before its December 2025 premiere.

What will Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 be about? Will it remain faithful to the books?

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season three will be based on The Titan’s Curse, the third book in Riordan's original series, which features new characters like Nico di Angelo and Bianca di Angelo, both the children of Hades.

In case you need a refresher, the Percy Jackson series takes Greek mythology into the 21st century, following a 12-year-old boy named Percy Jackson who discovers he's a demigod—part-human, part-God—and the son of the mythological God of the sea, Poseidon. Over the course of the series, Percy and his two best friends, Grover and Annabeth, must journey beyond the mortal world to prevent a war between the Olympian gods, a war that could destroy everything.

The show's first season focused on the first book in the series, The Lightning Thief, in which Percy is accused of stealing Zeus's master lightning bolt. The upcoming second season featured the return of Percy, Grover, and Annabeth as they “embark on a new adventure based on The Sea of Monsters—the second installment of Rick Riordan’s best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series.”

Rick Riordan is one of the leaders of the show's creative team, and previously promised fans once the first season began development that the new series would be very “faithful” to its source material and that he and his wife Becky would be involved “in every aspect" of what he deems a "live-action series of the highest quality.” Riordan co-wrote the show's pilot and also serves as an executive producer on the series.

The official synopsis of book three reads as follows: “When Percy Jackson gets an urgent distress call from his friend Grover, he immediately prepares for battle. He knows he will need his powerful demigod allies at his side, his trusty bronze sword Riptide, and… a ride from his mom. The demigods rush to the rescue to find that Grover has made an important discovery: two powerful half-bloods whose parentage is unknown. But that’s not all that awaits them. The titan lord Kronos has devised his most treacherous plot yet, and the young heroes have just fallen prey. They’re not the only ones in danger. An ancient monster has arisen—one rumored to be so powerful it could destroy Olympus—and Artemis, the only goddess who might know how to track it, is missing. Now Percy and his friends, along with the Hunters of Artemis, have only a week to find the kidnapped goddess and solve the mystery of the monster she was hunting. Along the way, they must face their most dangerous challenge yet: the chilling prophecy of the titan’s curse."

According to ScreenRant, Riordan has previously stated that he hopes the new series will have a total of five seasons, with each season covering an entire book in the five-novel series. “If you haven’t seen a particular god or demigod announced, that’s because they don’t appear in the season and won’t be cast until we start the subsequent seasons, which means any of those announcements are probably at least a year away,” Riordan teased. Well, you know what they say: Rome The Olympus wasn't built in a day.

Who plays Percy in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3?

WALKER SCOBELL as Percy in PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS season 2

Walker Scobell, who is currently 17 but was 13 at the time of season one's filming, plays Percy Jackson for a new generation and will continue in the role for season three. Though the previous screen adaptations of the book series aged Percy and his friends up to 16, the Disney+ series stayed true to the books, at least to begin with, depicting Percy as a 12-year-old boy.

Walker had previously been called the breakout star of Netflix's sci-fi adventure film The Adam Project, starring Ryan Reynolds. In a sweet announcement post in April 2022, Rick Riordan shared how “thrilled” he was about the casting decision.

“It was obvious to me and the rest of the team that Walker had the perfect mix of comedic timing, sweetness, rebelliousness, snark, and heroism to embody our hero Percy Jackson,” wrote Riordan on his website. “I got to deliver the news to Walker personally via Zoom back on Jan. 28 that he had been chosen for the part, and it was a magical moment that made me feel for the first time: ‘Okay, this is real. This is worth all the waiting and the hard work. This project is going to be amazing.’"

Riordan also noted that Walker is a “super-fan” of the novels—a match made in Elysium heaven. At Disney's D23 Expo in September 2022, Walker shared a few additional details on his take on the character, saying, "Percy is funny, he's witty. He's very sarcastic. He's very hot-headed. I'm just incredibly grateful to portray one of Rick's characters. We all are. I promise you, I will always try my hardest every single day to bring Percy Jackson to life for all of us."

Who else is in the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3?

Throughout the series seasons, Aryan Simhadri plays Grover and Leah Sava Jeffries plays Annabeth, Percy's two best friends. The pair of young actors were announced to be joining Scobell to complete the main trio of the Percy Jackson saga back in the spring of 2022. Grover is a caring “satyr, half boy, and half goat, disguised as a 12-year-old boy,” and Annabeth is the brilliant “true daughter of the Greek goddess Athena" who helps train Percy to survive the mythological realm.

You might recognize Aryan from the 2022 Disney+ reboot of Cheaper by the Dozen and the Disney Channel original movie Spin, and Leah from the Fox sitcom Rel. In his casting announcement post on his website, Riordan shared sweet words of praise for both Aryan and Leah, also noting that Leah, in particular, is “exactly the way [he] imagined Annabeth in the books: smart, strong, and courageous.” (Leah's casting has continued to spark intense racist online backlash, which led to Rick further defending Leah and his casting decision.) Riordan also promised fans that the new trio would make them “proud."

More familiar faces rounded out the cast of PJO in recurring guest roles during season one. Comedy actor Megan Mullally plays Alecto, a.k.a. Mrs. Dodds, “Percy’s strict, irascible math teacher who may act monstrous at times because she is—she’s one of the three Furies, who loyally serve Hades, the god of the underworld.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda guest stars as Hermes; Jason Mantzoukas, known for his work on Big Mouth and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, plays Dionysus, a.k.a. Mr. D, “the irritable and sarcastic” god who runs Camp Half-Blood and is confirmed to return for season two; and Virginia Kull portrays Sally Jackson, “Percy’s loving, protective and selfless mother [who] raised her son knowing that one day she’ll have to give him up to the dangerous world of the Olympian gods."

Glynn Turman, known for his roles in A Different World and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, plays Chiron, a.k.a. Mr. Brunner, who is “the famed centaur and trainer of heroes who provides Percy with moral guidance when needed, disguised as Percy’s Latin teacher”; Timm Sharp was also cast as Gabe Ugliano, “Sally’s selfish, brash, and combative husband as well as Percy’s stepfather.”

Charlie Bushnell, who plays Luke Castellan, the demigod son of Hermes and May Castellan, and Dior Goodjohn, who plays Clarisse La Rue, the demigod daughter of Ares and main antagonist at Camp Half-Blood, were both upped to series regulars for season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho, and Kristen Schaal all joined the cast as guest stars, portraying the Gray Sisters.

Bernhard portrayed Anger, described as the sister “in charge of collecting cab fare from heroes who call upon the taxi. Anger impatiently awaits her turn to use the one eye shared between the Sisters.”

Schaal was Tempest, "who currently has the coveted eye shared between the sisters and uses it to peer at the Heroes, read their future, and tease them about their crushes and social lives.”

Margaret Cho

While Cho was Wasp, “the main driver of the Gray Sisters Taxi. She takes the heroes on a high-speed and hair-raising journey to Camp Half-Blood. Even though she’s blind most of the time, she’s truly seen it all.”

Timothy Simons, whom you might recognize from Veep and Nobody Wants This, also joined the cast in its sophomore season as Tantalus. Tantalus is described as “sardonic, manipulative, openly hostile, and rarely in a good mood." The description continues: "Seeing as he is cursed with eternal hunger and thirst, but can never eat or drink. Tantalus has been released from imprisonment in the Underworld to become the interim Activities Director at Camp Half-Blood, having replaced Chiron (Glynn Turman), who is under suspicion of having ties to Kronos.”

In addition to the above, Tamara Smart also portrayed the demigod Thalia Grace in season two of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Smart was a recurring guest star during season two.

According to a press email, “Thalia is the Demigod daughter of Zeus who made her last stand to protect her friends at the edge of Camp Half-Blood. Rather than let her die, Zeus transformed her into a tree that anchors the force field that protects the camp. Tough and prickly, with a rebel/punk sensibility, Thalia is fiercely loyal to her friends and distrustful of her father's world.”

“Thalia Grace is one of the most important characters in the Percy Jackson universe, so the right casting was critical," Rick Riordan shared in a statement. "Thalia is a powerful warrior, a fiercely loyal friend, and a demigod rebel with a very ‘punk’ / ‘rage-against-the-machine’ sensibility. As soon as we saw Tamara Smart play this role, we knew we had found our daughter of Zeus. She was, no pun intended, electric. Tamara puts the ‘grace’ in Thalia Grace!”

Smart's casting as Thalia is pretty special, as she had previously worked with Lance Reddick. Reddick played Zeus in season one of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and sadly died in March 2023, just a few months after the season finale aired. Smart and Reddick had previously portrayed a father-daughter duo on Netflix's Resident Evil.

After landing the role, Smart said in a statement that it was "close to [her] heart" as she and Reddick wanted to work together again. “Lance Reddick and I always spoke about working together again, so it's that much more special and important to me to play his daughter once more as Thalia, and to keep his memory alive,” she said. “I feel his presence all around me and strive to make him proud on this exciting journey.”

During season two, actor Courtney B. Vance took over the role of Zeus following Reddick's death. (This was Vance's second project with Disney, as he's also played Cobra Bubbles in the live-action Lilo & Stitch.)

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to join the extraordinary cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians!” the actor said in a statement. “There are few moments in an actor’s career when you can honestly say that you’re about to board a series that has such a devoted fan base filled with characters beloved around the world and is based on a wildly successful book series. I know that stepping into this role of Zeus will be a memorable experience, and I’ll be giving my brother, Lance Reddick, who left us way too soon, a heavenly hug.”

Riordan called Vance's casting “a gift from the gods,” while co-showrunner and executive producer Dan Shotz praised both actors. “The day we lost Lance Reddick, we lost an icon. Getting to work with this fierce and gentle talent in one of his last roles as Zeus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians was truly awe-inspiring. I felt so fortunate to watch this man stand tall on Mt. Olympus, but more importantly, I felt lucky to be able to call him a friend. Finding someone to step into this role going forward was not an easy task, but when icon Courtney B. Vance answered the call, we knew the Gods were listening. This legend of cinema not only wanted to honor the books but wanted to honor Lance’s legacy. We can’t wait for you all to see him take the throne.”

Singer and actor Andra Day also joined the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season two as Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, and one of the most important roles in the franchise. Athena is the mother of Annabeth Chase, portrayed by Leah Sava Jeffries.

New season 3 cast members

Actors Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie will be joining Percy Jackson and the Olympians season three as siblings Nico and Bianca di Angelo, respectively, who are two of Hades's children. Disney+ announced the news at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, 2025.

On August 21, 2025, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Dafne Keen and Saara Chaudry have also joined the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians for season three. British-Spanish actor Dafne Keen (known for Deadpool & Wolverine, The Acolyte, His Dark Materials, and more) will join the cast as Artemis, “the Greek goddess of the moon and the hunt.” Canadian actor Saara Chaudry, on the other hand, joins the show as Zoë Nightshade, who's described as “an immortal hunter and Artemis’ lieutenant.”

The show's Artemis is described as a Goddess who “prefers the freedom of the outdoors to the politics and formality of Olympus. Her immortal hunters are her constant companions, and she has little contact with mortals, making her a bit out of touch with modern human culture. She is regal and an honorable fighter who will stand up to grave challenges.”

Zoë Nightshade, on the other hand, is described as the “loyal lieutenant to Artemis and first among the immortal hunters. She has been at Artemis’ side for more than 2,000 years. She is a strong warrior and sometimes overly serious in ways that amuse the demigods, but she is also a crucial quest member, willing to strive and sacrifice for the good of all.”

On October 15, 2025, Variety announced that Kate McKinnon also joined the cast of season three as Aphrodite in a recurring guest star capacity. The goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite “can alter her appearance depending on the beholder” and “must be sure that Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) respects the power and importance of love before she agrees to offer aid on his quest.”

On February 19, 2026, Variety reported that Ming-Na Wen, Jennifer Beals, and Hubert Smielecki had also joined the cast for the third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians as guest stars.

Beals, known for her roles in Flashdance and The L Word, will be Demeter, the “goddess of agriculture, the harvest and the cycle of life and death,” and daughter of Kronos.

Last but not least, Smielecki will be Apollo, the twin brother to Keen's Artemis and the sun to her moon. Apollo, a fan-favorite character, is described as “the dazzling and charismatic god of the sun as well as music, poetry, archery, and prophecy" and “the literal golden boy of Olympus.”

Smielecki, who's already viral on social media, is an up-and-comer whose only credit so far is a minor role in Netflix’s 2025 romantic western Ransom Canyon.

Will Logan Lerman be returning for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3?

Logan Lerman

When the news about the series initially broke, Percy Jackson OG Logan Lerman shared an adorable reaction on Twitter. “Excited to see this!” He wrote in May 2020. “Hope it gets the adaptation the books deserve. Congrats @rickriordan.”

X content

In an interview with Access Hollywood a month later, Lerman said that he was “open” to returning to the Percy Jackson universe. “I’m curious to see what’s going to happen with it, and I’m just glad that Rick, the writer—it seems like he’s in control or has a say," said Lerman. "I’m not sure how much say he had in the [movies] we did way back when a couple years ago. I hope that they get good scripts together… I’d be curious to see how it comes along, but if I’m right for it, of course, I’d consider it.”

Since the adaptation is staying as true to its source material as possible, Lerman likely won't be reprising his role as Percy in any capacity. This has led fans to dreamcast him as Percy's father, Poseidon; however, Lerman shut that down. "I get people asking me all the time if I'm gonna play Poseidon, and I'm like, 'Am I old enough to play Poseidon?,'" he said to Esquire back in January 2023. “I don't think I'm old enough for that one! I wouldn't cast me in that role if I was part of the creative team."

Lerman went on to say that “no one's hit [him] up” about joining the reboot and that he doesn't think he's “right for that anyways." “There's not a secret that's waiting to be announced or something like that," he said to the magazine. "I do get asked a lot about it, and I hate to disappoint and be like, 'No, I don't know anything, and I'm not involved,' but that's the truth… what I do know is that Rick Riordan is doing it, and that's pretty cool for the fans of the Percy Jackson series. I'm excited for those fans to get that version of the story told and see what they do with this.”

Ahead of the season one premiere in December 2023, Lerman surprised the new trio with a message during a live recording of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “The show looks amazing,” Lerman said. “I can’t wait to see you all crush it in your roles. You’re making a lot of people happy bringing these characters to life. I can’t imagine a better fit for Percy Jackson than Walker. You were so brilliant in The Adam Project. I hope you like eating blue food the next few years. I think you have a hit show on your hands.”

Walker Scobell's reaction was the best, revealing that it “definitely does [feel good] a little bit” to have the original Percy Jackson's blessing. “I have DM’d him before,” Scobell said about Lerman. “I watched one of his movies, Perks of Being a Wallflower. I really liked it. I thought it was so good I DM’d him.” So, who knows, maybe a cameo is in the books in the future… Lerman is publicly open to it, and fans still seem down.
