Congratulations are potentially in order for Phoebe Bridgers and Paul Mescal, who have the internet excited about rumors the couple is now engaged.
Paul, who previously starred in Hulu's Normal People, recently did in an interview with The Guardian that ran on Sunday, November 6, about his recent projects Aftersun and God's Creatures.
The Guardian then noted in a single sentence that Paul and Phoebe were engaged, before later adjusting their wording to “reported to be engaged.” (Paul himself didn't speak to the outlet on the matter, and the reports have been floating around since April and May of this year, mainly coming from tabloids like The Irish Mirror.) Neither Phoebe nor Paul has confirmed the engagement themselves, so for now the engagement remains a mystery.

The publication went on to remind us that Paul did slide into Phoebe's DMs before he quit social media for good. As pointed out by Buzzfeeed, the pair first made their red carpet debut back in 2021. They've appeared together at a few additional events and in some Instagram posts, but have kept most of their relationship out of the public spotlight.
Paul even discussed why he quit social media in The Guardian interview, which could explain his preference toward privacy. “I just don’t think it’s particularly useful for people to see, like, literally you,” he told the outlet. "I thought it’s either get off the bus now or stay on it, and I wanted to get off. In 10 years I might rue the day I threw out my social media, but look, it just is what it is.”
If the engagement news turns out to be true, cheers to them! We'll have to stay tuned to see who ends up serving as DJ at the wedding, but they definitely have plenty of amazing tunes to choose from… maybe Paul's 2019 Spotify Wrapped won't be the best place to start, however.

Prior to the renewed engagement rumors, Phoebe served as the cover star for Teen Vogue's October 2022 cover. She touched on plenty of important topics, including running a label and playing to conservative crowds. She even hinted at what might come next for her music, saying, "I feel like hate is actually healthy,” she says. “It's okay to be f**king super angry…Whatever I'm angry about now, I'm sure it will come to the fore in whatever I make next.”
This article has been updated to reflect that Paul Mescal didn't comment on the engagement in his interview with The Guardian.
