What if you were able to carry the words and guidance of some of today's biggest activists with you by just throwing them into your back pocket or bag? Soon enough you will with Pocket Change Collective, a non-fiction, pocket-sized series by some of the world's leading changemakers. Teen Vogue has a first look at the series's dazzling covers.
Penguin Young Readers has brought together the likes of Voices4 Founder and LGBTQIA+ activist Adam Eli, gender-nonconforming artist and spoken word poet Alok Vaid-Menon, 19-year-old indigenous climate activist and hip-hop artist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, and arts writer and co-editor of Black Futures Kimberly Drew for the series.
"Pocket Change Collective was born out of a need for space. Space to think. Space to connect. Space to be yourself," editor Rachel Sonis said in a statement. "This is a series of small books – small enough to fit in your pocket – with big ideas for change. In these books, today’s leading activists and artists share their stories, spark conversation, and capture the narrative of what activism, particularly youth activism, looks like today."
The four books are illustrated by visual artist Ashley Lukashevsky, who brilliantly captured the image of each of the authors. Check out the covers and a bit about each of the books below.
The series will be available starting June 2, 2020.
