A little over a year after its initial theatrical release in Japan, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos The Movie is slated to have its global premiere on Netflix on August 22, 2024, and the streamer has just released the official trailer for the two-part movie.
Unveiled on July 26, 2026, Netflix's official trailer for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos The Movie is set to “Tsuki no Hana” by Daoko and opens up with a calm clip of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask kissing before all hell breaks loose with the introduction of Sailor Galaxia, also known as the Warrior of Destruction, who is the leader of the villain organization Shadow Galactica. “Hurry over, Sailor Moon. This is your grave,” a mysterious voice then proclaims.
Touted as the final chapter of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos The Movie is a followup to Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie, which premiered on Netflix in 2021, marking the first time a Sailor Moon movie got a worldwide release.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos The Movie is based on the fifth and final story arc of Naoko Takeuch's original manga, called Stars. The synopsis for the movie on Netflix reads as follows: “Sailor Moon battles Shadow Galactica, an enemy threatening her friends in order to rule the universe. Can she protect her loved ones and persevere?”
On the Netflix website, the logline is: “One by one, Sailor Moon's friends and loved ones are targeted by a formidable new enemy who threatens to destroy everything and rule over the cosmos.”
Netflix announced it had acquired the rights for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos The Movie in June 2024, confirming the release date as August 22, 2024. Outside of Japan, the movie will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
