Princess Charlotte of Wales seems to have inherited her late grandmother Princess Diana’s penchant for charm bracelets, and her latest outfit is the perfect proof.
On July 12, Princess Charlotte, alongside her brother Prince George and parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, a.k.a. The Princess of Wales, Catherine, attended the men's singles final at Wimbledon and stole the crowd's attention with a subtle nod that many associate with Princess Diana. The 11-year-old chose to accessorize her royal blue dress and white ballet flats with a single piece of jewelry: a dainty gold charm bracelet on her left arm.
Captured by photographers on-site alongside her family, Princess Charlotte wore a thin chain link on her arm with an alternating arrangement of seaside-inspired dangling charms, including a seashell and a pearl. As reported by Tatler, the piece, now sold out, was from Accessorize, retailed for just £24 (roughly $32) and was made from 14-karat gold-plated metal alloy.
However, it’s not the bracelet’s affordable price tag that’s catching people's attention, but rather the fact that Princess Diana was known to love gold bracelets. As noted by Tatler, Diana famously owned a highly sentimental gold charm bracelet that Prince Charles had gifted her after their 1981 wedding. For the following 10 years, Diana was reportedly gifted a new charm to add to the link annually, including a miniature of their wedding venue (a.k.a. London’s famous St Paul’s Cathedral), mini ballet shoes, a bear, an apple, and the initials ‘H’ and ‘W’ in honor of her sons when each was born.
As noted by multiple outlets, this isn’t the first time that Princess Charlotte has flaunted a charm bracelet in public. For last year’s Wimbledon men’s singles final, she also opted for the same type of jewelry. That time around, her brand of choice was Pandora, which has become almost synonymous with charms, which she personalized with her own picks, including an emerald birthstone and a figurine from The Lion King.
It seems jewelry is a shared language among the women of the royal family, and the tradition is being kept alive across three generations. At this year's Wimbledon final, Catherine also famously paid another nod to Diana with her usual ring stack, topped by the infamous 12-carat Garrard sapphire engagement ring that previously belonged to the late princess.
The mother-daughter duo also included a nod to Princess Diana last month, during the Trooping the Color ceremony, when they both reportedly wore matching three-strand pearl bracelets. Catherine’s was also inherited from Diana’s extensive collection.
Like Diana, Catherine has a charm of her own that pays homage to her children. However, instead of a bracelet, she chose a necklace.
For now, she might be sticking to Accessorize and Pandora, but it seems like Princess Charlotte already has quite a collection to grow into!
