That's right — the Pumi is the latest breed to join the organization's roster, and is now eligible to compete in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

"It's amazing. I don't know what I'm going to do on that first day, when we can actually get a blue ribbon," Chris Levy, president of the Hungarian Pumi Club of America, told NPR.

Even though the breed is recognized in most other countries, it took over 17 years to get approval from the AKC because the organization requires that 300 dogs be registered before they can compete in dog shows. Until now, the Pumik (Pumi plural) have been competing in the "miscellaneous" category, which barred them from the "conformation shows" a.k.a. the canine beauty pageants. Now, they'll be able to compete as the herding dogs they are! Known for their "whimsical" facial expressions, the Pumi is sure to be a serious contender for Best in Show, or Cutest in Show at the very least.
