Ripped jeans are officially coming back with a vengeance, and Rachel Zegler is fully on board with the trend. On October 28, 2025, the Evita star was seen out and about in London in a quintessential “cool girl” outfit, complete with the ‘00s staple.
Rachel Zegler was spotted on her way to the Greg James BBC Breakfast Show in the British capital, rocking a full look from Coach’s fall 2025 collection complete with a matching black leather jacket and vest (with no shirt) and lightwash ripped jeans with frayed hems and a loose silhouette, which the brand's nicknamed “skater.” Zegler completed her look with a pair of sunglasses and the Twin Turnlock Bag from Coach.
We might argue that ripped jeans have truly never gone away. The distressed take on denim has stood the test of time. In the 1970s, it became a staple in hippie countercultures and punk rock movements. In the 1990s, it emerged as a signifier in grunge subculture and anti-fashion movements, before fully entering the mainstream in the 2000s. Since then, their popularity has ebbed and flowed, without ever fully going in the rearview. However, they are poised to retake the front seat as they permeate the premium and luxury markets.
Teen Vogue's style director, Alyssa Hardy, already noted that ripped jeans were reentering the mainstream back in September after seeing them taking over NYFW runways aplenty, from Private Policy and Brandon Maxwell to Area, Simkhai, and, of course, Coach, who actually included ripped jeans in its collection back in February.
