Raven-Symoné is opening up about why she always wore heels as Raven Baxter on Disney's That's So Raven.
In a recent appearance on the Unplanned podcast, the actor shared that she often wore high heels because “there is an understanding that if you're short and you wear heels, it thins you out.” Raven-Symoné mentioned that if you did a deep dive into her looks on the show, you'd basically always see heels, even when it didn't always make sense. “When you look at That's So Raven, every single outfit had on heels. I would be wearing heels and pajamas sometimes, just because it makes you look thinner.”
When asked if there was anything she wished her team had said to her about it at the time, Raven-Symoné replied that she didn't want them to say anything. ”It was a different time period. Nobody was my size at that time."
Fans flooded the TikTok comments to share their support for the star. “I always thought it was just part of her character's style," wrote one. “This is so sad.” (Raven Baxter wanted to work in fashion and is a fashion designer in the rebooted sequel series, Raven's Home.) “Always assumed she wore heels because she was an icon!” wrote another fan.
This isn't the first time Raven-Symoné has touched on conversations about her body during the That's So Raven years. (The show hit airwaves in 2003 and ended in 2007.) “So, That’s So Raven was during a time when weight was not celebrated like it is now,” Raven-Symoné shared on The Bright Side podcast in October, responding to a Disney channel exec's comments about editing her body on the show. “There’s this really interesting thing you can do with film, when you’re in television, and you can stretch the film. So if you’re wide and you stretch it long ways, you look skinnier. And there were talks about that.”
