Stop the presses because Reneé Rapp just won Halloween 2023 with one of the best pop culture homages of all time.
At her sold-out show at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on October 31, Reneé Rapp surprised the audience by dressing up as My World 2.0 era Justin Bieber and put the costume to good use. How, you might be wondering? Well, by actually copying one of Justin Bieber's most iconic moves and pulling a girl from the audience to serenade “One Less Lonely Girl,” his hit track of yore.
The Mean Girls musical movie star transported us back to 2010 with her rendition of the Bieber throwback, hitting every note and adlib. She appears to have been inspired by one of Justin Bieber’s most memorable ‘fits from the era as she chose an all-white Canadian tuxedo (emphasis on the Canadian here) paired with a matching purple hoodie, sneakers, and snapback. (Rapp gets extra points if they were Supras. IYKYK.)
As was also customary during Bieber’s My World Tour, Rapp gifted the chosen “OLLG” with a bouquet of flowers. She didn’t pull just any girl, though, but The Summer I Turned Pretty star Lola Tung.
Tung attended the show dressed in a very Y2K ‘fit, donning Dr. Martens Jadon boots, a pleated denim mini skirt, fishnet tights with socks, and a white shirt tied at her waist. When the time came to perform “One Less Lonely Girl,” Tung was waiting patiently on the pit, admiring Justin Reneé Bieber's rendition. The result? A perfect recreation of one of the 2010s’ most memorable performances. Couples costumes clearly need to step up after this.
