“Riverdale” Season 7 Will Mark the End of the Hit CW Show

The end of an era.

The day has finally come… Riverdale is officially coming to an end. As reported by Variety on May 19, The CW has announced the series’ upcoming seventh season will be the last.

The broadcaster announced the decision while unveiling its fall release schedule, which noted Riverdale’s seventh season will be the final one. Season 7 of the show is expected to premiere during the mid-season in 2023, which means probably between January and May.

The CW gave season 7 of Riverdale the greenlight in March 2022, but many wondered if it would actually be the end of the series, though details were mainly kept under wraps at the time.

Back in December 2021, Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper on the show, admitted the cast and crew were hopeful “for a season seven” during an Instagram live but later added that “that will probably be the last one.” Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead Jones, also recently shared most of the cast was ready to "wrap it up with a bow."

Well, it looks like their wishes have been answered.  Riverdale first premiered in 2017 and has aired over 110 episodes to date — which we could argue are more than enough. That said, Season 6 is still in full swing with three episodes left and Season 7 will probably add at least 15 episodes to the tally. There's plenty more magic, murder, and small town hijinks where that came from.
