The day has come: Rihanna has returned to Amazon with the highly anticipated Savage X Fenty Vol. 2 fashion show. Last year, Rih made her Amazon show debut with a star-studded show that not only was a celebration of all bodies but also changed the lingerie game forever.
Today, October 2, the second iteration of the show officially debuted on Amazon Prime Video, and the show was just as exhilarating and celebratory as the first – if not more. As expected from RiRi, the quasi hour-long show was undeniably packed with several amazing moments; from celeb cameos to personable behind-the-scenes at Rih's design process. But among all the glory, there were a few instances that stood out to us so here's a roundup of the very best from Savage X Fenty Vol. 2 – yes, including the best products!
1. The Garden of Eden
Rihanna is known for giving full-on productions. She’s the epitome of “go big or go home” and all of her experiences live up to that. A part of what makes them so exhilarating is the creative settings her shows take place in.
Set to Frank Ocean's "Self Control" and then a live performance from Miguel, one of the best moments of the show was the magical Garden of Eden scene. Full of ethereal nature moments, the setting was reminiscent of Savage X Fenty's very first New York Fashion Week show in 2018. With butterfly-inspired makeup, stars like Paloma Elsesser, Laura Harrier, and Rih herself (emerging from a giant, blossoming flower bud as one does), took center stage.
2. Rosalía’s Crystal-Encrusted Debut
Just minutes into the show, Rosalía opened as the first celebrity performance with her remix of Sech's "Relación" and "TKN," her collab with Travis Scott – all donning sultry black biker shorts, a lingerie top, and a robe. Aside from her look, she performed strutting down the show’s first set, a hallway of flashing lights that immediately let us know we were in for more than a show, but we were in for an experience. Alongside her dancers, Rosalía danced and sang in her crystal-encrusted lingerie that paired so effortlessly with her nails and, of course, her microphone.
3. Getting To Know Rih
Rihanna got up close and personal behind-the-scenes for Vol. 2. The trailblazer bought us on a journey, quite literally. Using themes as conducting threads, she let us in on everything from her personal style to her never-ending inspiration. “Inspiration can come from anything. What makes it unique is your own interpretation of that message, that color scheme, that texture. And, so everything that I do is going to be personal to me, especially when it comes to Savage,” Rih says during the show.
Rihanna’s travels have inspired her a lot, whether it be the textures around her that inspire Savage textures or colors that she wants to include in her designs. The special personal tidbits about her life truly showed us how much time she puts into Savage X Fenty. It’s more than just lingerie to her.
4. Let’s Talk Sexuality
What’s lingerie without sexuality? After all, the alluring undergarments are a way to express your sexuality however that may look to you. For a portion of the show, Rihanna and others spoke about the importance of sexuality and what it means to them. “Sometimes [sexuality] is tainted because you’ve had your own experiences or have been robbed of your own power,” Rihanna said. But, she made it clear that owning your sexuality is owning your power and that’s ultimately what she wants the Savage X Fenty customer to do.
5. The Fenty Beauty Effect
Beauty is big to Rih, we see it not only through her business endeavors Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin but also throughout her personal life. She’s always been into daring eyeliner or a bold lip color on a red carpet, she’s not afraid to take risks when it comes to beauty, and she implements that in all of her productions.
6. Cara Delevingne's Mullet
Leave it to Cara to wow us with a new hairdo. The model strutted the “runway” clad in black Savage X Fenty lingerie in linear makeup while showing off a mullet hairstyle (taking cues from Rih herself).
7. Normani’s Wedding Day
In stark opposition but equally stunning was Normani, Savage X Fenty's first-ever ambassador, in an all-white set complete with a veil that gave off extreme wedding vibes. Who wouldn't marry her in this 'fit? As a matter of fact, who wouldn't marry her period.
8. Building a Community
Rihanna has never shied away from championing her community and she let it be known in behind-the-scenes clips that her community is her everything. But, her community is larger than just her family, friends, and team who she surrounds herself with. It’s making sure everyone is included in anything she does. Being inclusive comes naturally to her.
Similarly to Fenty Beauty, she’s always surprised when people in the industry applaud her for diversity and inclusion because it’s just what she knows and community is important to her. “Inclusivity for me has always been something second nature, it’s nothing to really think about,” she said. “I didn’t think it would be such a talking point after the fact, all I could think about was including everyone.” From her designs to the models, the show was a representation that she walks it like she talks it and is serious about being inclusive of all people.
9. The Savage X Fenty Men's Line Debut
Recently, Savage X Fenty announced they were launching a new market: Men’s underwear. Between the sultry campaign photos of Christian Combs to the silky PJs, everyone went crazy. The highly anticipated line officially debuted during the show with a breathtaking greenscreen-like factory setting. The pieces were worn by celebs like Christian Combs and rapper Chika, modeled on all different and inclusive body types. We got major moments from the likes of Parish Hilton, Willow Smith, Tabria Majors, Rico Nasty, Shea Couleé, and Gigi Goode during this section but it was perhaps Dexter Mayfield who stole the show with his vogueing solo. We already know Savage X men’s will be selling out quickly!
10. The Work Itself
While these moments had us hype throughout the entire show, what we really were super excited about were the clothes (of course!) From fishnet detailed lingerie to the silky men PJs sets, the new Savage X lingerie and loungewear is just as fire as the show was.
