It's been only a few days since Christina Grimmie was shot and killed outside of a concert, but the world is still in shock. It's devastating to lose anybody young, or from gun violence, but for those who were close to the 22-year-old singer, it's a life-changing tragedy. Christina had many fans and friends, and was particularly close to Selena Gomez and her family. Less than two days after Selena's heartbreaking tribute to her friend, Selena's step-dad decided to take action as well.
Brian Teefey began a GoFundMe account for the Christina's family that, as of now, has raised over $100,000. The page includes a message from Brian, who explains that Christina was like a second daughter to him.
"Words cannot begin to describe the pain I am feeling," he begins. "I learned this business through the eyes of a father and Christina was like a second daughter to me. All I wanted to do was assist her in achieving her musical dreams while protecting her from the pitfalls associated with the business. I never could have imagined this horrific event being one of the pitfalls needing to be avoided. In Christina’s honor, I have created a GoFundMe page to assist her family in their time of need."
The original goal for the page was $4,000, but many people have stepped in to try to help in whatever way they can. Sometimes, coming together as a community isn't just the best way to mourn, it's the only way to heal.
