Selena Gomez chose a structured cream cocktail dress for her latest event, the Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit, that may or may not be linked to her longtime close friend Taylor Swift.
For the NYC event, Selena Gomez chose a sculptural, asymmetrical dress from Australian designer Tony Maticevski. The Amber cocktail dress (in an off-white shade called Pearl Crush) is a mix of cotton and polyester and retails for $2,665, if you need it for a summer gathering.
The Only Murders in the Building star accessorized with gold jewelry, a slicked-back ponytail, and a white handbag. And before you make a comment about the crinkly texture of the dress, know that it is intentional. Let’s not get into another Quinta Brunson crushed-satin situation.
Now, what does this have to do with Taylor Swift? Well, Maticevski is also the brand behind the sculptural white dress Swift wore in the first sequence of the “Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)” music video.
It could be a coincidence. A trendy designer picked by two women in their early 30s, but we’d like to think Gomez is giving Swift a subtle shout-out with her choice of outfit (not that Swift needs any more publicity; The Tortured Poets Department is smashing records left, right, and center). Also, according to Instagram, Tay Lautner — as in the wife of Swift’s ex-boyfriend, current friend, Taylor Lautner — was a featured guest at the summit. It’s all connected!
Anyway, Selena Gomez spoke with Surgeon General Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy, who seems to have styled himself in his military uniform — a way more obvious choice.
