Happy birthday, Francia Raísa! The actor celebrated her 35th birthday on July 26, and one special friend sent her a sweet birthday wish on Instagram: Selena Gomez.
This is notable for a few reasons. Raísa famously donated her kidney to Gomez in 2017, which she said made them "like family." However, the friends have gone through their fair share of ups and downs over the years, including when Gomez said Taylor Swift was her “only” friend in the industry in a November 2022 interview. After seeing the statement circulate on social media, Raísa commented (and then deleted) "Interesting," then reportedly unfollowed Gomez on Instagram. That comment ended up on TikTok, and Gomez saw it, leading her to reply, "Sorry I didn't mention every person I know."
A few months later, Raísa said she was being "violently cyberbullied" by Selena Gomez fans. “In no way shape or form does anyone condone bullying, especially Selena," Raísa shared with TMZ. "So the fact that now I’m being bullied as I am is messing with me mentally. It’s not what anyone wants for someone, and [Gomez] is literally out there saying ‘Please stop.’ So I don’t understand why this is happening.”
Though we don't know the intimate details of their friendship as it stands right now, Gomez's Instagram post for Raísa's birthday seems like a genuine, sweet, heartfelt wish — maybe even an olive branch of sorts.
"Happiest of birthdays to this special human being. No matter where life takes us, I love you," Gomez wrote alongside three photos of the pair together at various points in times. However, at the time of writing, Raísa did not comment on the post or share it on her Instagram Stories, so honestly, who really knows what's going on. Regardless, it looked like Raísa had a super fun birthday, and that's all that matters, right?
