Simone Biles is coming back to gymnastics! According to AP, Biles plans to compete at the U.S. Classic in early August which “typically serves as a warm-up of sorts for the national championships.” This would be her first event since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In 2020, Biles dropped out of the competition to prioritize her mental health. “I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but d*mn sometimes it’s hard,” she wrote at the time.

In conversation with Brené Brown at the Simmons Leadership Conference a few months later, she reiterated the importance of her decision. “Walking away from the Olympic Games was a win in itself," Biles said. "I know a lot of people thought I failed because they expected me to go out with five or six medals, but walking out of it was my biggest win.”

Not only she become a staunch mental health advocate, and leotard designer in her time since competing, the gold medalist also married to football player Jonathan Owens in early 2023.

Biles hasn't commented on the news yet, but there is sure to be a more formal announcement coming.
