Not only is Simone Biles the most decorated gymnast of all time, but she's also a woman in love. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist married professional football player Jonathan Owens in April 2023 after dating since 2020.
The pair has been fairly open about their relationship, sharing their early beginnings meeting on a dating app during the COVID-19 pandemic, to going on to support each other in their careers. Jonathan Owens has been playing in the NFL since 2018, jumping from a few teams, including the Houston Texans — Simone Biles's hometown. Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens made their first Met Gala appearance as a couple for the 2025 event.
This isn't the first time Biles has walked up those coveted stairs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Olympian attended the 2021 Met Gala when the theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.” This is, however, the first time she and her husband have attended the event together.
The pair came in complementary outfits, with Biles wearing a short, structured blue dress with a long train and dramatic collar. She paired the dress with platform heels. Owens wore an all-white suit, carrying a cane and a fur shawl along with a blue broach.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens gave fans a little sneak peek into their first Met Gala appearance as a couple.
On Monday, May 5, 2025, Biles shared a series of photos on her Instagram Story, showing how she and her husband are preparing for the biggest night in fashion. In the first slide, Biles shared a photo of what looks like a hotel room with different machines that are meant for skincare. She captioned the photo, “prep for MET MONDAY.”
Biles also shared a photo with Owens, who is standing behind her, kissing her on the cheek. The caption also reads, “MET MONDAY.”

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens had a date night at the 2025 Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Biles looked gorgeous in a strapless lavender-colored minidress, pairing it with silver heels and a derby-perfect matching hat. She wore her hair down and wavy, and wore a silver bracelet. Owens matched his wife by wearing a similarly-colored suit and white pants for the event.
April 21, 2024: Simone Biles celebrates one-year-wedding anniversary
On April 21, 2024, Simone Biles celebrated her first year being married by sharing a series of unseen photos with her husband, Jonathan Owens, on Instagram.
“This is your sign to marry your best friend,” Biles wrote. “Happy 1st anniversary 🤵🏽♂️🤍🤞🏾👰🏾♀️🕊️ I’m excited for many more to come. I wish I could marry you a million times more! I love you so much!”
In the post, Biles posted a photo from her wedding, along with two other professionally-taken photos seemingly from their engagement.
December 24, 2023: Simone Biles responds to criticism of Jonathan Owens calling himself the “catch” in their relationship
Simone Biles is standing by her husband after facing backlash for his recent comments about not knowing who she was before they started dating and referring to himself as the “catch” in the relationship.
Sitting down with The Pivot podcast, Biles and Owens spoke about their relationship and its beginnings. Podcast host Channing Crowder asked Owens, “How in the hell did you pull Simone Biles?” To which the NFL player responded, “It’s really how she pulled me.”
“I didn’t know who she was at the time,” Owens said. “But the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of [Instagram] followers, so in my mind, I’m like, ‘Ok she got to be good.’”
Both hosts of the show looked at Owens skeptically when he said he didn't know who she was, and the NFL player responded, “I promise you.” The host then sarcastically asked, “So you was really the catch?” Owens responded, “I always say the man the catch.”
After the endless comments, Biles and Owens have since responded to the criticism on social media. Without addressing the interview directly, Biles posted “are y'all done yet?” Owens posted photos from the pair's wedding with the caption, “Unbothered 😂❤️ Just know we locked in over here.” Biles commented, “for life” under the photos.
May 6, 2023: Simone Biles wears four wedding dresses to her Cabo ceremony
For her wedding weekend in Cabo San Lucas, gymnast Simone Biles donned not one, not two, but four special gowns.
Biles and her husband, football player Jonathan Owens, became legally married in April 2023 in a courthouse ceremony in Texas, which isn’t uncommon for couples who plan to have their big bash outside the US (just makes everything easier, legality-wise.) For that occasion, she wore a $120 tiered dress from the online shop Selfie Leslie.
For Cabo, she packed a whole other suitcase (one imagines) just for Bridal Lewks. At the rehearsal, she wore a Galia Lahav JILL mini with spaghetti straps, then a custom gown from the same designer to walk down the aisle. She also donned two Galia Lahav frocks for her reception: a body-hugging style and then a dance-friendly number.

On February 15, 2022, Biles took to social media to announce that she and then-boyfriend Jonathan Owens were getting married after dating for nearly two years.
“WOKE UP A FIANCÉE," Simone tweeted on Tuesday morning with tearing emojis. “I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! Let’s get married FIANCÉ.”
Simone shared a set of photos on Twitter of Owens down on one knee in a gazebo, popping the surprise question at golden hour. The couple became officially engaged on Valentine's Day. “Ready for forever with you,” Owens commented on the post with a red heart emoji.

One year after making their relationship IG-official, Simone Biles is celebrating another important milestone with boyfriend Jonathan Owens: their very first anniversary.
The Olympic gold medalist took to Instagram on Saturday, August 28, to share a sweet photo series of the pair. In the pics, they are twinning in coordinating outfits of orange tops (Jonathan sported a t-shirt while Simone opted for a ribbed tank) and ripped denim. They even matched their footwear, with both athletes donning bright white sneakers.

August 2, 2020: Simone Biles goes Instagram official with Jonthan Owens
Simone Biles took her relationship with NFL player Jonathan Owens to the next level: Instagram. The gymnast shared two sweet selfies on August 2, 2020 with her new boyfriend, captioning it, “it’s just us.”
The gold medalist posted two photos in a series, both of which feature her beaming smile. In one photo, Jonathan looks directly into the camera with a coy smile of his own on his face; in the second, he leans over to kiss Simone’s neck. March 2020: Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens match on a dating app
Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens both confirmed in interviews that they originally met on the celebrity dating app Raya in March 2020 — right at the start of the pandemic. Biles told the Wall Street Journal that she made the first move, sliding into his DMs.
“I saw him and I was like, 'Oh, he's pretty cute,' so I said hi ... and then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later,” Biles said.
Owens told TODAY that because of the COVID-19 pandemic shutting everything down, it was “one of the few times in [Simone's] life” where she “couldn't do anything.”
“So we used it to get to know each other — really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now I'm so thankful,” he continued.
