Starbucks Is Raising Its Prices Because Nothing Is Sacred Anymore

You've probably already been overcharged.

Starbucks is raising prices by up to 30 cents on some drinks, and a computer glitch means you might have already been charged the new rate.

The company typically raises prices around this time of year, though things went into effect a bit earlier than expected. Starbucks addressed the issue in a statement to Eater:

On July 12, Starbucks is planning a small price increase on select beverages. Unfortunately, that price adjustment was prematurely entered into the point of sale systems in our U.S. company-operated stores. As a result, some customers were charged incorrectly. The maximum any customer could have been overcharged is 30 cents per beverage.

30 cents?! If that doesn't sound like a lot, maybe you're rich, and I'm happy for you. But maybe you are not calculating the kind of percentage 30 measly cents is on an item under $4. Or, you know, the way this kind of increase adds up when you are going to Starbucks for a caffeine fix on a regular basis along with Rihanna or "Stephanie," sorry, I mean Lady Gaga.

Anyway, if you think you've been overcharged, Starbucks suggests calling 1-800-782-7282 (also via Eater). After July 12, the new prices go into effect, and there will no longer be any way to get your additional 30 cents back.
