Suri Cruise is slowly but surely positioning herself as a retro sneaker connoisseur. Earlier this summer, the 19-year-old was spotted roaming around NYC wearing a pair of classic Nike Cortez, a style that Olivia Rodrigo has also consigned. Now, Cruise is going one step further and stepping out in a retro silhouette that made us do a double take.
On August 7, 2025, Suri Cruise was photographed paying her mom, Katie Holmes, a visit on the set of Happy Hours, which was filming in Alphabet City in Manhattan, and we immediately had to zoom in on her choice of footwear.
Cruise was spotted beside her mom, donning cargo pants with a thin brown belt, a strappy white top, and a pair of bright red patent leather sneakers with a low-profile silhouette. Her shoes featured a slightly pointed toe similar to that of the Nike Cortez. However, upon closer inspection, we realized Cruise favored a much nicher alternative, which retails for $80 and is currently on sale for $45.
Cruise's shoe of choice is none other than the KO-80 Low patent in red/white by PONY, an American heritage footwear and clothing brand headquartered in New York City. Unlike the Cortez, which owes its origins to running, a field that still informs Nike's DNA to date, the KO-80 Low was born in the boxing ring, and is directly inspired by PONY’s original boxing collection, as the brand notes on its website.
The KO-80 favored by Suri Cruise is made of premium full-grain leather and patent leather uppers. The shoe also features soft leather lining and a comfort-molded footbed with red laces that blend into the upper and an ultra-low profile rubber outsole.
Boxing shoes have been slowly but surely emerging as one of the key sneaker trends of the season. That said, we traditionally see more people, like TXT's Yeonjun, opting for high-top rather than low-top styles like Cruise. However, if you love her under-the-radar pick but want to keep the classic super high look of boxing shoes, fret not, because PONY also makes the KO-80 High.
