The Swifties had a very pointed message for the smallest man who ever lived: Donald Trump.
On Sunday, the former president and current Republican nominee was bold enough to take on the legion of Taylor Swift fans known as Swifties after the pop superstar and icon publically endorsed Kamala Harris for president in the 2024 election. After weeks of speculation on whether or not the “childless cat lady” would share her political leanings this election cycle, Swift took to Instagram following the debate between Harris and Trump on September 10 to share that she is voting blue.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift wrote in her caption, alongside a photo of her with her cat. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Of course, Trump wouldn't be Trump if he didn't have a response to the huge endorsement, and he waited until Sunday to finally share his thoughts. In a post to his social media site Truth Social, Trump simply wrote, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” (Yes, really.)

His response to Swift's Democratic allegiance comes after his campaign began selling shirts that mimicked Eras Tour merch, while Swifties trolled him by saying he was in his “cease and desist era.”
Soon after Trump's outrage was spelled out in four simple words, the official group Swifties for Kamala released a short and not-so-sweet statement regarding his online outburst: “…Who the fuck IS that guy?” They also linked to the website to donate to the Harris-Walz campaign.
Kamala Harris's campaign also released an official statement in response to Trump, littered with Swift lyrics and references, titling the press release “Trump’s Bad Week (Taylor’s Version).”
“We’re pretty sure it’s Safe (& Sound) to say Donald Trump’s week has him Down Bad,” the statement read. “Mr. Not-at-all Fine has spent this week working through his feelings, whining about his Champagne Problems, and spending exactly none of his time addressing the issues facing the American people.”
Following the back and forth, those well-versed in the power of Swift's fanbase know just how loyal they are to Taylor Swift. Several people posted their reactions on X, jokingly pointing out that the Swift-Harris endorsement was a big deal:

But while Swift's fandom is a force of its own, rabid Trump supporters are another group that Swift will now have to take on. Conservative commentator and former TODAY host Megyn Kelly displayed as much after she went on a rant about Swift's endorsement on her YouTube show, The Megyn Kelly Show, and said the singer can “kiss [her] sales to the Republican audience goodbye.”
“I’m allowed to criticize Taylor Swift and I don’t give a sh*t who gets upset. This is disgusting,” Kelly said of Swift's statement on Tim Walz's support of the LGBTQ+ community. “If she wants to vote Harris-Walz, she can do it all she wants but to say the reason she is doing it is because of Tim Walz’s stance on LGBTQ, eff you, Taylor Swift. And eff all of the people who want to see these children have body parts chopped off and watch them sterilized under the age of consent and then will ride off to their multi-gazillion dollar mansions, never to think of them again.”
Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief Versha Sharma also spoke about the history of Swift's politics, along with the onslaught of MAGA backlash that will ensue in a recent interview on MSNBC. She reiterated that the superstar has now “invited the wrath of Trump and his base, and Trump's rhetoric.”
“Starting with ‘she’ll pay a price in the marketplace,’ to ‘I HATE HER!’ (yes, really) will only embolden his most threatening and hateful supporters against her - a key reason why she didn’t want to speak out in the first place. They show their misogyny again and again: a key reason why she is speaking out now."
