Sydney Sweeney is looking a little different these days. The Euphoria star is known for her long blonde hair, but that hair is nowhere to be seen in her most recent Instagram photos — and there's an important reason why.
Sweeney shared two surprising photos of herself to Instagram and was nearly unrecognizable in the pics, most notably because of her hair. Gone was the dark blonde color and in its place, brunette curls and curly bangs. Her hair is pulled back in a low ponytail and she wears a red tank, gray sweatpants, and retro high-top sneakers.
Turns out that the transformation is for — you guessed it! — a movie role. “Well the cats out of the bag thanks to some paps in bushes so here’s a little bts from my film I'm working on right now,” Sweeney wrote. “Over the past few months, I’ve been immersed in training to bring to life the story of an incredible woman—a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strength, and hope, and I’m honored to step into her shoes to share her powerful story with you all.” See the images here.
Sydney Sweeney will be stepping into the sneakers of boxer Christy Martin, who competed from the late ‘80s to the early 2010s and was the first female boxer on the cover of Sports Illustrated. While Martin is currently sporting a short blonde hairstyle, she had the exact same curly brunette bangs as Sweeney does in the photos back in her early days. This also explains why Sweeney is flexing her muscles in the pics; she’s definitely been hard at work training for the role.
Deadline broke the news of Sweeney's casting back in May, and the star told the publication that she was looking forward to the transformation. “I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body," Sweeney shared. “Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.”
