Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell are coming in hot with their contribution to the rom-com genre. Their forthcoming R-rated film Anyone But You is already one of the most talked-about films of the year, and audiences are beyond ready to see how they heat up the screen. After much anticipation (and even more speculation), we finally have our first look at Anyone But You.

Co-written and directed by Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends With Benefits), Sony's Anyone But You is said to be a modern — and arguably very loose — reinterpretation of William Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing, which follows the story of Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) in the classic enemies-to-lovers trope.

"When college arch-nemeses reunite years after graduation for a destination wedding, they pretend to be a couple for their own personal reasons. But through pretending, they actually fall in love," the official synopsis for the series reads. (A bit heavy on the spoilers, but we kind of expected that.)

We still have some time until Anyone But You hits theaters, so it's time to catch up on everything you need to know about the film. (You might have also heard some whispering about potential drama surrounding the two costars — or rather, the costars and their significant others — who have been spotted getting very close.) Keep reading to find out everything we know so far about Anyone But You starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, including the release date, the full cast, plot details, trailers, and more.

Is there a trailer for Anyone But You?

The first official teaser trailer for Anyone But You was released on October 19, giving us a peek into Bea and Ben's fake romance as it unfolds in Australia. But the most interesting part about the first teaser trailer was the movie's seemingly major Euphoria spinoff vibes — from the darker, Labrinth-esque music (wasn't this supposed to be a rom-com?) to Bea's apparent cunning similarities to a lovestruck Cassie Howard. The first teaser left fans desperate for more light-hearted fun, especially after Sweeney had hyped up the film as a return to the golden age of rom-coms earlier this year.

On November 16, Sony Pictures released the full-length official trailer, which is absolutely the trailer audiences should've gotten first. There's sexy banter, laughs, raunchiness, a re-enactment of Titanic, and Glen Powell's bare butt, all set to the Olivia Rodrigo's fun, uptempo “Bad Idea Right?” Now this seems like it could be a golden age rom-com.

"Maybe we should just tell everyone we are together," Sweeney's Bea tells an incredulous Ben in the trailer as the two share a not-so-romantic boat ride together. "There's no way we can convince anyone that we actually like each other," Powell's Ben later proclaims. And the rest, as they say, is history.

When will Anyone But You be released?

Anyone But You was originally set to release December 15, 2023, the same day as Timothée Chalamet's musical prequel film Wonka. According to Deadline, Sony has now pushed the release date back to December 22, 2023 and the film will be released exclusively in theaters everywhere — perfect for a date night or a holiday weekend matinee with your besties.

As noted by Entertainment Tonight, Powell and Sweeney shared a few details about the plot earlier this year at CinemaCon 2023 shortly after wrapping production on the film in Australia. "As you could probably guess, this movie's about two people that hate each other. Sydney plays a character [who is] a real nightmare," Powell said. Sweeney added that Powell's character is “a real a**hole… a real d*ckhead.”

"And what better place to put a nightmare and an a**hole than on the other side of the world in the most romantic setting imaginable?" asked Powell, setting up the premise of the film. Sweeney previously told ET that the movie was a tried-and-true rom-com. “Just know the movie is going to be so much fun. It is so funny," she said. “And it gives love, it gives humor, it gives sex. It gives all the great things that make a movie. And we want to bring back the good ol' rom-coms with Will Gluck, and we’re having a great time doing it.”

Sweeney and Powell have major chemistry, and it's raised more than a few eyebrows considering both actors were in relationships during filming and their first press run. The actors have a dreamy, witty repartee, which is more than evident in interviews; apparently Sweeney even has a nickname for Powell: “Top Gun." "I love when she calls me that," Powell noted at CinemaCon 2023. Every interview clip that has surfaced of the on-screen couple has involved lots of eye contact, close body language, flirty banter, and giggling.

A video of the two practicing a romantic dip went viral on Twitter, adding fuel to the fire, as did carpet pics of the two looking very comfortable together. Page Six reported that set snaps and paparazzi shots from filming captured Sweeney and Powell “looking loved-up on set several times" — and famed gossip social platform DeuxMoi speculated that their on-screen romance had potentially blossomed into a real one at the beginning of 2023. Despite Sweeney and Powell's “are they or aren't they” dynamic, TMZ reported in the spring that Sweeney is still definitely engaged to her partner Jonathan Davino — though Powell's girlfriend Gigi Paris reportedly unfollowed both Powell and Sweeney on Instagram, and a source confirmed to People on April 26 that Paris and Powell had broken up.

According to the insider, the couple broke up “weeks" before CinemaCon, and one of the main reasons for the split was the difficulty of maintaining the long-distance relationship with Powell's busy filming schedule — not Powell's rumored fling with Sweeney. Even still, Paris posted an Instagram video on April 26 in the midst of the breakup buzz, with the caption: “Know your worth & onto the next."

Four months later, Sweeney commented on the dating rumors to Variety, calling the speculation “really funny.” “It’s a rom-com. That’s what people want! Glen and I don’t really care,” Sweeney said at the time, unaffected. "We have so much fun together, and we respect each other so much; he’s such a hard worker, and I’m a hard worker. We’re excited for the press tour, and I literally just left ADR with him. We talk all the time… They want it. It’s fun to give it to ’em.”

In November, Powell addressed the rumors for the first time since his breakup while speaking to Men's Health, and didn't seem as nonchalant. “When all that stuff happened, you know, publicly, it felt disorienting and unfair,” said Powell. (Men's Health notes he intentionally referred to the incident “the alleged affair.”) “But what I’m realizing is that’s just a part of this gig now.”
