A lot of things happened at the Grammys 2022, but we can all agree one of the biggest mysteries of the night was SZA’s crutches.
Despite posing on the Grammys red carpet with poise and ease, SZA got everyone’s attention when it was time to make it to the stage to give her acceptance speech. The singer, who won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Doja Cat for their chart-topping single "Kiss Me More,” used crutches to walk to the stage. Lady Gaga helped her out, lifting the train of her long Jean Paul Gaultier gown as she navigated the stage steps.

As soon as they spotted the crutches, many wondered what might have happened to SZA. The explanation, however, is rather simple. "I fell out of bed right before it was time to leave [for Vegas],” she explained to reporters in the press room after the show, per People. SZA described the situation as “very funny.”
"That's the way it goes,” SZA elaborated. “Everything awesome in my life has always come with something very random — but it just adds to the energy and I'm just grateful!"
We're wishing SZA a speedy recovery, but also focusing on the silver lining: her injury gave us potentially the best behind-the-scenes video of the night, courtesy of Lil Nas X. Right after the show wrapped, Lil Nas X posted a video to Twitter in which we can see him pushing SZA in a wheelchair. “I am now SZA’s personal [caretaker],” the nominee and performer wrote on Twitter. We love to see it.

SZA and Doja Cat's acceptance speech was a little chaotic, as SZA tried to hurry to the stage with her crutches and Doja was literally running back from the restroom. “Bro you went to the bathroom for five minutes, are you serious?” SZA joked into the microphone.
Doja then went from commenting on how she had never used the bathroom so fast in her life, to being overwhelmed with emotion at her win. “I like to downplay a lot of sh*t, but this is a big deal,” Doja said through tears and applause from the audience. “I'm glad you made it back in time!" SZA said to her collaborator after giving her own thanks. Last night's win was the first Grammy Award for both artists.
