For the first time ever, a few editors went on a Teen Vogue Tries IRL adventure, which happened to be at one of the most popular spas in NYC — Ancient Aire (anyone remember the iconic John Wick scene filmed there?!). We were sent on a beauty mission to try out Tarte’s latest product, the Creaseless Creamy Concealer — while soaking in hot baths — and we were more than excited to put the product to the test.
Now, if you’re wondering why we would test out a concealer at the spa, well, that was our first thought, too, but we ultimately decided that if Tarte felt confident enough in the concealer to withstand extreme heat and mist, then why not give it a try? According to the product description, the new concealer formula offers full coverage with a natural finish. Its anti-crease formula won’t break down or settle into fine lines, and it's made with hydrating ingredients like maracuja and a cloudberry complex that brightens the appearance of dark undereyes.
Tarte sent us a bunch of shades to choose from, and after we each found our perfect match, we applied it right at our desks and took selfies to document the before-and-after results. We then headed over to the spa and took another selfie in the lobby to get a final look at the concealer before entering the baths because cell phones were not allowed inside. Spoiler alert: The results pretty much lived up to the waterproof and crease-proof claims. But don't just take our word for it, see the results for yourself below! We promise you'll be as shocked as we were, so scroll on to read our honest thoughts.

Nowadays, a concealer has to work very hard for me since it’s become the main staple in my everyday beauty routine. It’s replaced my foundation, and I find that it feels so much more lightweight and is easier to work with. As a regular Tarte cosmetics concealer girly, I’ve come to trust the brand in giving me the full coverage I need to cover up dark circles and blemishes. Now, when Tarte came to us about testing out the new formula at Aincent Aire, I immediately shook my head thinking..huh? Wearing concealer in a sauna bath doesn't seem right to me, but if they’re confident in asking, then it must definitely be worth trying.
I first applied the concealer with a few dots under my eyes and brows. The product blended out very easily, and I love how hydrated and brightened my undereyes looked. After spending about two hours hopping in and out of the hot baths, a steam room, and a jacuzzi, I can happily say that the anti-crease formula is truly 10/10. I only noticed slight smudging when I zoomed in really close into the mirror, but other than that, that product pretty much looked exactly the same as when I had first applied it. - Shauna Beni-Haynes, Commerce Editor

I've been using Tarte Shape Tape Concealer for years now as my go-to for under-eye circles and dark spots. So when I heard about the brand's newest concealer, I wondered how it would compete with my tried-and-true go-to. While I found that it was a little difficult to find a good match for my skin tone, I did think that the formula was great. It goes on to the undereyes with a very subtle, barely-there finish and truly is creaseless. It also lasted very well. Aside from the areas of my face that I tend to touch a lot like my chin and jaw, it lasted and stayed creaseless throughout the day, including after the sauna. - Donya Momenian, Fashion and Beauty Associate Editor

This concealer surprised me for a few different reasons. My usual problems are A) finding a shade that matches me because my neutral undertones and rosacea clash, B) my incredibly dry skin causing patchiness and flakiness, and C) finding a formula that stays in place during #sweatygirlsummer. Tarte really stepped up to the plate with this one. Before our excursion to the baths, I was incredibly happy with how well the product matched my skin tone and immediately brightened up my complexion, but I was worried it wouldn't hold up in both the summer and spa heat. When we headed to the baths, I was fully expecting it to melt off immediately, especially when we hit up the sauna and the hotter pools that are designed to make you sweat.
That being said, I'm giving the concealer an A- on that one. I was surprised at how well it held up, particularly under my eyes. A little bit came off my chin, and there was some slight patchiness, but if I'm being honest, I did forget I was wearing it and swiped an itch once or twice, which likely led to the transfer. Under my eyes was a different story. It held up completely, didn't crease, and showed no signs of transfer. I'm absolutely going to fold this into my daily makeup routine, especially during the hotter summer months. - Jilian Selzer, Social Media Manager

Tarte’s Creaseless Creamy Concealer is the first concealer I have ever correctly matched by eyeballing and no swatching. As someone who is notoriously always between shades, I was shocked to find that 47S melted into my skin as if it were my own. I put the concealer on in what I believe to be the worst conditions possible — with my finger, in fluorescent lighting, with midday oil on my face. And still, it oxidized to an even more perfect color match and instantly brightened my under-eye.
While the concealer didn’t hold up too great under the extreme conditions of the Aire baths and sauna, I was shocked to see just how much was still on by the time I had dried off. I used the concealer in prime conditions a few days after, and I loved the way it sat naturally underneath my setting powder, allowing full coverage without caking or fast creasing. -Kaitlyn McNab, Culture Editor

So I am admittedly not a big concealer girlie, but this Tarte concealer has awakened my mind to the possibilities. It went on super smooth, and I gently tapped over my under eyes, onto a blemish on my nose, and onto some light scarring around my chin. I admittedly have pretty good skin, so I know you're reading this skeptically, but the biggest thing for me was the brightening power. I noticed immediately how much the shade lit up my eyes, and it even stayed on through sweaty saunas and cold plunges at the Aire Baths in Tribeca. Definitely see a place for this in my regular routine. - P. Claire Dodson, Associate Culture Director

“While I initially had a difficult time finding the right shade for me (my summer tan required some layering) overall I found the concealer to do the trick. Even with a dip in the pool and a HOT day in NYC there was no creasing or running — especially under my eyes where I usually have the most trouble.” - Alyssa Hardy, Contributing Editor
