When it comes to high fashion, you can wear a bridal gown pretty much anywhere. Taylor Russell opted to wear one to the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on August 28, 2024. And she didn’t pick just any bridal gown, but a major vintage one.
For her red carpet appearance, Russell, who serves as an ambassador to the brand, tapped into the Chanel archives and pulled a couture gown from the brand's spring-summer 1993 collection that is just as in season now as it was then.
The dress features a long white train, a puffy lace bubble skirt overlay, and a matching sheer bodice covered in clear plastic and adorned with crystal embellishments and corset boning. It originally debuted at the Chanel Haute Couture show in January 1993. Model Claudia Schiffer wore it accessorized with a matching headpiece.
Russell, however, skipped the adornment and instead opted for minimalistic styling, which we can totally get since this vintage statement piece really speaks for itself. She styled her hair slicked down with her signature cropped cut. She stuck to mostly neutrals for her makeup, opting for just a touch of pink blush and a mauve lip for her pops of color. Skipping the necklace, she just opted for two small crystal-encrusted silver earrings on each ear instead. She wore matching silver rings on each hand and a white cuff bracelet on one wrist. Tying the whole look together, she went with a pair of white point-toe stiletto heels, which just barely peeked out from beneath the train of her dress.
It seems Russell has been on quite the vintage kick. Earlier, she wore a blazer and skirt from John Galliano’s spring-summer 1995 ready-to-wear collection, which was originally worn by Yasmeen Ghauri on the runway. She similarly skipped the headpiece from that look. Instead, she opted for a pair of trendy mesh lace-up heels.
As vintage dressing becomes more popular, stars like Russell, Zendaya, and others continue to dip into the archives of fashion houses to find their next best looks. We’re looking forward to seeing what they pull out next!
