Taylor Swift stood and sung along to Olivia Rodrigo's “Vampire” performance at the Grammys 2024, which fans took to mean any hypothesized past drama was now water under the bridge. During Rodrigo's performance, the camera flashed to Taylor a couple times, applauding, smiling, and singing along as she stood for the younger singer.

Where did the feud rumors begin? It was a war so cold that maybe it never happened: Rodrigo had been a longtime fan of Swift and mentioned being inspired by her frequently in interviews, and their affection for each other turned mutual (Rodrigo promoted Swift's Fearless re-record with fellow Swiftie Conan Gray and interpolated “New Year's Day” on SOUR).
Then suddenly, they seemed to be on the outs. Blame it on a shifting music industry, the perceived cooling to their friendship happened after Rodrigo gave Swift a belated credit (and royalty percentage) on “Deja Vu” for its similarities to “Cruel Summer.” (Paramore also got one for “good 4 u” and its similarity to “Misery Business.”)

“I think it’s disappointing to see people take things out of context and discredit any young woman’s work,” Rodrigo told Teen Vogue back in 2021. “But at the end of the day I’m just really proud and happy to say that my job is being a songwriter… All music is inspired by each other. Obviously, I write all of my lyrics from my heart and my life first. I came up with the lyrics and the melody for ‘good 4 u’ one morning in the shower.”
In the same Teen Vogue interview, she added maybe the final word on this: “I just feel like sometimes there’s so much noise and criticism and weird things going on in the world… I hope people know that deep down, all that I do is write songs and talk about how I feel, and that’s the most important thing to me. Everything else, I think, is not so important.”
Perhaps this Grammys performance is the beginning of a new era for Taylivia.
