Following the cancellation of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour's Vienna stops after an alleged terror attack threat, Wembley Stadium has announced tighter security measures ahead of the singer's second residency at the famed venue. These measures include not allowing fans to gather around its premises.
As noted by The Guardian, Wembley Stadium will not allow fans without tickets to gather outside the venue, as has become customary throughout the tour, during the singer's five consecutive shows scheduled at the venue between August 15 and August 20, which mark the end of the European leg of the Eras Tour.
In a statement posted to the official Wembley Stadium website, the venue claimed that "to support with the safe entry and exit of everyone within the stadium, no one is allowed to stand outside any entrance or on the Olympic Steps at the front of the stadium." The website also notes that "non ticket holders will be moved on" and that “additional ticket checks will be in operation at points in and around the stadium prior to entry.”
On August 8, Taylor Swift canceled three of her Eras Tour shows in Vienna after two men were arrested for reportedly planning to attack the concert venue on Thursday, August 8, or Friday, August 9, Austrian officials disclosed.
"With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone's safety," a translated statement from the concert organizers read.
Fans in the city for the event later gathered on Corneliusgasse and other places to exchange friendship bracelets and sing Swift's songs.
In a statement to People, a spokesperson for London's Metropolitan Police previously claimed there was "nothing to indicate that the matters being investigated by the Austrian authorities will have an impact on upcoming events here in London." They added that the officials have been working closely with venue security teams and partners to guarantee the safety of concertgoers.
On August 5, Swift unveiled new opening acts for the five final shows in London, announcing Holly Humberstone, Suki Waterhouse, Maisie Peters, Raye, and Sofia Isella would be joining Paramore at Wembley. The Eras Tour will continue for another North American leg a month after the London shows, with the final show scheduled in Vancouver, Canada, on December 8, 2024.
